4 motion vw t5/6

Anyone launched with a 4 motion. The ol disco 2 does a cracking job and I’m not sure a lesser motor would do it but I’d like to move my office to the beach from time to time...

8.1m scorpion with twin axle sbs. No idea on weight but boat is very light for size.

I moved from a D4 to a T6 t32 lwb 204 DSG 4mot. I was pleasantly surprised. It’s not a Disco but it does very well. We tow & launch our 545RC. It’s missing the low box of the D4 & stops us from doing some of the more “adventurous” launches that we’ve done in the past, but overall I’m happy. Our boat is on a twin axle & weighs 1950kg. Dunno if I’d want to pull a 8m+ though.

Those 4motions don’t have a as big capacity as you may think, around 2000kg IRC. Not too up to speed with scorpions but a quick google reckons around the 1000kg mark, as the OP said, very light for such a length!

With the trailer and associated stuff you’d be over in my opinion!?

I have a t6 4motion DSG, the trick is to order the locking rear diff, makes it a different animal. Done some silly things with it and never got it stuck, far from it! The highlight must be pulling a very smug Defender out of a snow drift, the craft was so upset with a van pulling him out he put his brakes on!

Towing wise it copes well with a heavy trailer, ive moved several bits of plant on it and it's never batted an eye lid. I have no quibbles pulling the full 2500kgs of boat behind it.

I’d be amazed it it weighs more than 1250kg with engine I can almost move it on my own by hand on a twin axle. Engines around 250kg. Trailer I guess 450-750. Add some fuel. It all adds up.

This gives a figure of 1000kg for an 8.1 Scorpion with a 225hp Optimax.

Add the weight of the trailer & anything else on the boat incl batteries & fuel.

Probably best to put your own boat on a local weighbridge with whatever you would normally have on board when towing.
I did mine (17' Dory) on the weighbridge at one of the local council waste disposal sites, IIRC cost me £5 & I got a printout of the weight. Bit of a surprise as it was rather more than I'd estimated!.

It’s always seems to be the way, you can add up all the components and have a guess but I’ve always found the package ends up being much more than expected when ever I’ve weighed trailers.

The only towing capacity incould
