Alloy trailer axles, any good compared to galvanised steel?

Hi, launched boat at the weekend and was 2 miles from home when the indespension suspension arm on my trailer buckled. An expensive recovery home & now I need to replace the whole bloomin axle as its a complete unit.Boo!!
Snipe quoted me £328.90 in vat and delivery but I have found a bloke on e bay who will make the axle to suit for about £200 delivered inc VAT.These axles are alloy. Can anyone tell me are they as strong as galvanised steell axles?
If anyone has an axle in good nick that will fit my trailer let me know. Its a Snipe R13-360 capacity of 360kgs with a 145 x 10 peak axle.

Jon, have you tried Peak themselves for a direct replacement? They still make axles.

Seems expensive for a 350kg axle. Look here.

You specify width and that are made to order. As I recall, the intervention website had axles at 750kg for less than £200.

Hi Jon

Just back from sailing around in the Irish Sea, apologies for missing your call.

I've left you a voicemail just now (Sat 11/05 circa 1800). I can do a replacement (made to measure), galvanised, 500kg GVW axle for around £130.

All the best, Ben
