I have LEDs on my trailer, no problem with a VW Transporter.

I guess it depends on of you have dedicated electrics for car too thinking about it.

I'm not a fan of dedicated electrics but my current car has them (car doesn't have LED's) and I get rapid trailer flash without resistors on trailer.

In an attempt to get a fix I've ordered a PLUG-IN SMART LOAD RELAY FOR LED LAMPS from ATE

Both suppliers (SBS & Ate) have been good and offered to take back there parts if I can't make them.
I had for some time run with both submersible incandescent lamps as well as LED's as a pair to 'fool' the car ( 2015 XC70) but if I get a bulb failure, the LED tail lights go into the usual f blink mode. Just bought one of the above as recommended by Charlie - works perfectly ( still got both light sets ). Nice bit of kit

I use LED trailer board, which with adapter (7 pin to 13 pin) works fine on my VW Tiguan from 2014

Just converted my trailer board last weekend to LED .
Surprise- but works even without any LED adapter and even without resistors for turning lights !
Car is a 2014 VW Touareg .

My SQ5 has no issues using LED’s without any fancy adaptor on the trailer

Depending on the car and if it was using dedicated electrics will depend in if you have this problem.

I just got rid of my xc90 (factory electrics) and had hyper flash with my trailer.

New bus is a 2016 grand Cherokee (factory electrics) and no hyper flash. It does do something strange when you first connect the trailer with the side markers but it settles after a few seconds.

A decent indication is if you have LED tail lights in the car. Some cars only some of the lights are on canbus too
