They were protesting each other during training FFS !.

One “badge of honor” that I am particularly proud of is the number of times I was protested by spectacularly pushy parents spectators when I removed them from the “field of play”.

I have been involved in youth sailing (international cadets)for some years and generally Kids and Parents have all been fine.

Topper training was a shock to the system.

My 13 yr old summed them up nicely yesterday:

" Sailing is supposed to be fun" she said and this wasn't at all.

Oh yes, the number of parents I've politely asked to leave the racing area who try to ignore you and pretend they can't hear and then get as grumpy as a grumpy thing when my follow up is;

If you don't leave now your beloved will be disqualified, 5,4,3,2 - oh look they've gone

If you sit down with the top RYA Youth Guys and say "should the aim not be to get zero protests, teach them its fun etc" they will answer along the lines of "they need to learn how the protest room works or when they meet the big boys they will get eaten alive!"

The most interesting I've seen was a combined protest of about 20 sailors... Parents are excluded from the protest room... ...it was like a maternity ward outisde with a cohort of expectant dads outside waiting for news!

I've sailed with Flying Fifteen's - if you think Youf's are the king of the protest room you are mistaken! But at least most of them are too old to still have parents that are alive!

^^^ Very true, A fairly large F/F fleet at our club, probably only 2 of them not drawing a state pension !.

I helped to run a Cadet open meeting last year, after 2 days racing we only had 2 protests.
