Help with avonride knot av20 coupling

Hi

I have an avonride knot av20 coupling which is seized. I've dismantled it to try to get the drawbar out.....

but I was just wondering if there is any way to get the 2 grease nipples out? They seem to be round with no way to unscrew them?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

If its the ones I'm thinking of they are tapped in on a taper, I removed two with vice grips to get the shaft out iirc they locate the plastic bushes for the shaft

That's the ones! Thanks, they're the drive fit type, managed to get them out and ordered some new ones. Just got to hope I can get the seized drawbar out now.

The bushes are plastic so a bit of heat with a gas torch if all else fails will soften them, when I cleaned mine up and put the new bushes in it worked a treat & the bits were cheap. I was half expecting to need to fork out for a new hitch

I just polished up the shaft with a wire brush in a drill and used a small round flap wheel inside the coupling & once everything was clean the bushes went in and just fitted nice. If the shaft is realy badly stuck a gas torch on the case will warm it enough to soften the bushes before the galvanising starts to melt but you need something like a roofing torch to get a large area of heat over the coupling. Ours was stuck with the shaft back in the brake on position we had the back of the trailer tied to a tractor & the hilux on the hitch and couldnt pull it out until we warmed it up once it was moving it was fairly easy to strip

Thanks, I'll give it a go,I have a roof torch so will use that, i've been using a heat gun for now as I wanted to try to not ruin the bushes and re-use them....but it's looking like I'll need to destroy them!

I think the bushes were less than a tenner, I was the same thinking they would be a fortune but eventually admitted defeat & was pleasantly surprised how cheap the bushes were

That's exactly what I did, from a piece of 10mm thick canvas reinforced belt that I think originally came from a quarry.
It's done thousands of miles and is still in there.

Great thanks.

Now the bushes I bought are for a Knott kf20, which I believe is the same as my avonride av20, the bushes are 45.8mm internal diameter and 50.7mm, now the hole that receives the bushes is only around 49.5mm, so assume I put the bushes in the freezer before fitting, and obviously copious amounts of grease, or do they just tap on in there no issues?

Thanks again for all the help

Just fitted the new ones, went in easy but had to sand them down inside for drawbar to fit, pretty easy to be honest, just had a flap sanding wheel smashed into a metal tube I had lying around. Nearly all done!

Thanks for all the help
