Yes there are a number of combine clusters available, I got mine through ebay cost about £45 for a pair.

As for the illuminated plate the old trailer board I used to use did not have plate illumination anyway and I have not had any problems despite doing a lot of towing in the dark last winter.

The number plate is actually in a much more prominent position on the transom anyway.

I still cant get my head around you guys .. you sucked petrol with a wet dry vacuum cleaner Obviously Henrys combustion chamber wasnt up to the job, if it was me .. I'd have at least worn the same flame retardent suit I use before having an argument with the wife

What happens - Your lighting board is in place on its brackets and the cable is wrapped around the trailer frame to prevent it from dragging on the road and damaging the cable. You arrive at the slipway, and you either have to completely remove the lighting board and unwrap all the cable from around the trailer, or if your trailer is long enough you can just re-position your lighting board nearer to your winch post and tie it on to the trailer frame with a bungee. (tried that, lighting board still got half submerged in the briny).

Cut the cable at the lighting board and fitted a trailer socket to the board, and an additional plug to the end of the cable. Tie wrapped half the cable to the front half of the trailer frame, so that the rear half of the cable can be pulled clear of the water and the plug can then be fitted into the plug holder at the front of the trailer.

Result is cable never needs to be removed from trailer and the lighting board can be quickly removed.

I carried out your mod ,as much to kill some time as anything else, and think you are on a winner ;the whole process is now quicker,cleaner (no chance of grease from jockeys etc getting on the cable) much easier storing the board without the flex and as a bonus my 9 year old can do it with no concerns re the cable touching the road if he dosen't do it right.

seems a load of hassle , why not use a Led submersible light system, saves putting a manky trailer board in your car!!

What stopped me going down that route, was comments here, which led me to believe waterproofing was still leading to failures with led's and the connections. Also I think in the UK you still need an illuminated number plate (could be wrong there). So all things considered it's less hassle..

I've got kids,the board is normally cleaner than the inside of the car...

Yes, though finding anything other than a VOSA inspector that knows that is unlikely.
