Lighting Board Mod.

My pet hate is lighting boards and cable, so I thought I would share this little mod I have made to my lighting board.

What happens - Your lighting board is in place on its brackets and the cable is wrapped around the trailer frame to prevent it from dragging on the road and damaging the cable. You arrive at the slipway, and you either have to completely remove the lighting board and unwrap all the cable from around the trailer, or if your trailer is long enough you can just re-position your lighting board nearer to your winch post and tie it on to the trailer frame with a bungee. (tried that, lighting board still got half submerged in the briny).

Cut the cable at the lighting board and fitted a trailer socket to the board, and an additional plug to the end of the cable. Tie wrapped half the cable to the front half of the trailer frame, so that the rear half of the cable can be pulled clear of the water and the plug can then be fitted into the plug holder at the front of the trailer.

Result is cable never needs to be removed from trailer and the lighting board can be quickly removed.

I just attach my light board and run the cable inside the boat and down the bow strake to the tow hitch giving a turn or two around the jockey wheel.

I like the idea,as the cable always gets dirty from road grime and i always end up putting it all in the 4x4.I also hate unwinding it every time although putting in the boats an option i would still want to wind it round something

No, the dangly end is not tie wrapped to the trailer, simply disconnect the dangly end from the lighting board socket and pull up to the front of the trailer, and place the dangly bit into the plug holder normally reserved for the plug that is still in the socket on the vehicle. This way the cable does not need to be removed from the vehicle or the trailer, just the lighting board.

My 4x4 has a creme coloured interior and road grime does not do it any favours

Are you SURE that's a 4x? Did the seller look like a hairdresser?

A CRV cant be "proper 4X4" it does more than 25MPG and dont leave its territory marked with a pool of EP85w/90 gear oil. also it wont spend enough time at a the dealer being fixed to qualify
My degraff trailer has a proper quick release lighting board bracket, i only used it to fetch the empty trailer, i too find it easier to put the board on the A frame with a bunjee and run the cable in the boat. dont have a problem with the dirty cable in the car, its a proper 4X4 and smells of gear oil, diesel, wet carpets, mould, and dogs anyway.......yep a landrover!

I just lay the cable on the middle of the trailer then wind it round the jockey weel a few times. Takes about 15 seconds to put on, and 5 to remove.

Knew someone that kept his lightboard on the A frame permamently, just wound up the cable and dumped it in the back.

Why Not LEDs?

Has to be the LED light route for me, no dirty trailerboard to worry about!

http://rib.net/forum/attachment.php?...1&d=1200074358

Just a small numberplate board that can hang off the aframe or transom.

Chris,

With the LED route, Is there an LED version on the market that has combined indicators, lights, & brake light, also is there a regulation that the number plate should be illuminated?
