Max boat width .

Just a quick one guys and girls, I can’t work out the law and regulations on towing my boat. I have an Arctic 28ft is it to wide to tow or would I have to deflate the tubes.

Thanks.

As you probably know Uk.gov regs states 2.55 mtrs is max trailer width presumably this is the load trailable width ( a bit Woolley ) the beam of your boat is over 3 mtrs so I would say deflate the tubes, some trailers can tilt to enable wider boats mainly cats to be trailered legally but I doubt this would help a rib

You are allowed overhang length wise but not sure on width. The trailer itself must not exceed 2.55m though.

As mentioned the rules seem to have a degree of interpretation or at least forum myth does.

Edit- not sure if this applies to trailers???

The max width for trailers up to 3500kg MAM is now 2,55mtrs and your load is allowed to overhang the trailer by 305mm each side. BUT, if the overhang to the side is greater than 305mm or if the total width of the trailer and/or load is greater than 2.9mtrs then it's 2 days' notice to the police.

So, for most of us with normal trailers and not wishing to get the police involved, keep the boat width below 2.9mtrs.

Under C&U regulations:
Maximum width of trailer = 2.55m
Maximum overhang = 305mm each side
Maximum overall width = 2.9m

Anything above this counts as a abnormal load, so requires police notification, marker boards, outline marker lights & beacons and will have restrictions on when it can travel in certain places.
