Mondeo Electrics kit

OK, finally settled on a new tractor. It's been a while since I fitted a hitch (187,000 miles to be exact!) and so this new can bus malarkey has put a whole new twist on things....

So, has anyone managed to wire a Mondeo (or any ford for that matter) for less than £200?

All the cheap kits seem to be traditional "relay & scotch lock" jobs, and all the "plug in " can bus types all seem to need me to take it to a stealer so they can charge me through the nose to prod the module & tell it there's now a tow lighting module in the mix.

Anyone know of a "plug & play" version that actually works? - Google isn't being my friend today.

Right Connections or Towequipe. Right Connections are brilliant (they make most of the kits for OE), but nearly all (in my experience) require dealer assistance. Though this should only be around £40 - it's just plugging in a laptop.

And that, quite simply, is why I am asking the question! Most are wanting double that.

the wonders of modern technology I guess. sorry I couldn't help further.

It'd appear not bedajim: Notice: 1984852 (Issue: 60768)

I guess that narrows the search down a bit.

You don't say what Mondeo you have, or whether you're after 7pin or 13pin, but Google these and see what prices you come up with. It's the Right Connections part number for the 13pin and 7 pin electrics. 13pin will be around £170-£190 the 7 pin around £90-£120, model dependent, IIRC. If you get a deal on the one that you need, then it may negate the additional spend on the dealer coding.

13pin: 29060515RC
7pin: 19060515RC

happy hunting

Do you need to go to the dealers for 'activation'?

I'm sure a man of your abilities would be able to source the hardware and software to DIY it.

Could come in handy later for checking codes, turning off EML/airbag light.

I've got the OPCOM software for Vauxhalls, can do anything the dealer can do.

Can't help with your Mondeo, but Right Connections did a great job when they fitted their can-bus electrics kit to my new Peugeot. The car needed a "dealer upload" for the stability control wotnot and reversing sensors when towing. They fitted the kit in about an hour (while I drank their coffee) and hooked it up to a laptop to do the "dealer" bit!. Even put a sticker in the service book to advise future mechanics that the car had been programmed for towing just in case it accidentally got overwritten.
Worked out better value than buying a DIY kit, fitting it myself and then paying Peugeot to program the thing!

TG / Bedajim, thanks.

It's a 10 plate (MkIV I believe is it's "street designation")and I'm after 13 pin.

That PF jones one is one of two that give me a feeling that it might actually do what the OEM one does (if it isn't actually the OEM one!)

As TG says, the 13 pin ones are lurking around the £200 mark without the "prod". My concern is many talk about a "bypass relay" and none give me the feeling it does much more than switch off the fog lights & confuse the CAn lamp out sensors- the ones that go into any depth (i,.e adjust the ABS etc are all £200+ I got a quote for Ford Leccys £230 odd +VAT. I may just bite the bullet & mate that with a Witter or similar bar. Am now (tomorrow morn!) off to phone round a few stealers & see what they'll quote me to wire it all up.

A1an - you might not be surprised to hear if the Quotes are nuts I'm off to modify my ELM...... if the software works!
