Not quite. Don't get me wrong, the VW 4Motion is a damn fine car, same space as an A6, more rear legroom, more boot space, a refined and comfortable drive in SE specification, and probably better fuel consumption overall.
Hadlex is part-time 4WD and kicks in when wheels lose traction? Primarily it's front wheel drive the rest of the time. Same as Audi TT and A3 quattro or S3, etc.
Only A4, A6 Q5, Q7, etc, are permanent 4 wheel drive and authentic quattro.

Not strictly true. On most on most vehicles (e.g. Honda crv) that use the haldex drive this is the case. However, the current 'normal' split for vw 4-motion is 90% front / 10% rear. It's well documented on the vw website if you're interested.

Spartacus - yeah my 2008 passat is the new haldex system so only 4x4 when it needs it, the old 2003 passat 4motion I had was the same as the audi quattro - 4x4 permanently.
Its odd on the new passats waiting for a fraction of a second for the grip to kick in.
Not sure what the passat alltracks use - proabably the newer haldex system to keep emissions down

Can you not opt out of the company scheme and take a cash option ? That's what I did when I needed a tow vehicle. OK it costs me a bit of moenty but I got to chosose a car I wanted to drive and at 28-30K p.a. I spend enough time in it!
The fact the company has jusr slashed the car allowance to opted out people by 15% is another matter!!!! £3.5K net after tax a year to provide, insure, tax & maintain a car thar must be no more than 5 years old. Servicinbg £900, Insurance £600 and onlt 21ppm running allowance on business mileage grrr!!!
