Dan, something's off somewhere, I've swapped my NCD between business/private/car(disco)/pickup(Hilux)/van numerous times over the last 10 years & never had a problem. I even transferred my (private) NCD onto my Ltd company van. Try Quoteline, they specialise in commercial stuff & you talk to a real person in your native tongue (well Mancunian)

I was told that you can transfer NCD from a domestic policy to a commercial, but insurers won't allow it the other way. Makes no sense to me, but that's par for the course.

In post #5 the op states he had a claim & can't use his protected Ncd. Protected Ncd only counts for the origional insurance company with the same vehicle any other company will treat you as having no Ncd hence the quotes.
Your going to pay hefty insurance untill you rebuild your Ncd unless you stick with the origional insurer who offered the protected Ncd
Basically you've had a claim so you pay the full premium!

punch in Mitsubishi shogan 2010 see what you get mines £165 with Churchill more than 9 years NCD age 61 something wrong with the quotes your getting hilux,ford same as Nissan so shouldn't be £1000

Fwiw, I don't rate pickups ( well Hiluxs anyway) as tow vehicles. Unless you've got plenty of weight on the bed, they are flighty on the back end. You're going to be pulling a hefty lump with that RB on the back. Have you tried it on the vehicle?

we use isusu and ford at work for pulling the dive spreads two wheel ivor Williams not had any probs but we have got off road boots on.
heard the stories of the engines blowing up

Gotta agree with pd pickups are not good tow vehicles we have a hilux hl3 3.0 & an old 270cdi merc ml & the merc is far better at towing the hilux suspension is just too hard &shakes you to bits with a heavy trailer on & traction is terrible unless you select 4wd .ok up to about 1.5t but over that a proper 4x4 is far better

Well, the bad news is that I'm kind of commited now. The good news is that I got a reasonably sensible offer from the Police mutual cos my father in law to be is ex "job".

It seems like as far as ribnet is concerned, all shades of opinion are here. On a seperate thread I've had advice that the 3lt hilux is the best thing since narrow bread. I'll def be keeping an eye on the timing chain : I've found a pretty good looking Navara owners forum with all the evils to look out for.

Just need the V5 to come back after the private reg transfer so I can HPI it and we're good to go.

Anyone want to buy a nice Seat Exeo?

It's not that hilux are bad cars just pickups in general don't make good tow vehicles
They achieve there tow rating fully loaded & are a Totaly different animal with 1000kg over the rear axle hang a heavy trailer on an empty one & there way outclassed by a proper 4x4 with full time 4wd & the weight distribution better & independent rear suspension

👍🏻 totally agree a few of my customers tow with pickups and a few have had trouble 😳 never had trouble with mine as it's loaded all the time 😎
