Pickup Insurance
Evening all,
So I think I've decided on a tow vehicle: Nissan Navara Auto on a 2010 plate with 53k on the clock. I'm just having a look at insurance on gocompare.com and during the quote process it asks if I have any "Van NCB". If I select no then I get quotes back of >£1000. I've never owned a commercial vehicle before so my 15 yrs+ of NCB has been earned in cars. Does anyone have any experience in this area? Can one get car NCB taken into account? Even if I put 15 years NCB in I'm still getting quotes almost twice what I pay for the Exeo.

I found with anything out of the ordinary-ie, not a normal Joe Bloggs type car- that comparison websites are a load of tosh.
Contact the companies direct or you'll rapidly find that in many cases what the comparison website asks for isn't what the insurance company itself wants to know.

Looks like we'll need to scrap the whole idea. Apparently I can't use my protected NCB on the Navara because I have a claim in the last year (minor bump at a junction, she got Alderney involved so I wasn't able to settle off the insurance). The best A-plan could do was £1800. Dunno if i'll be able to get my deposit back from the dealer. Looks like I'll just have to fry the Exeo's clutch.

Pickup Insurance
Nfu is about the best don't bother with Adrian flux heard they have issues and are a bit like Dick Terpin 😳
A-plan and Nfu seem to come out best with the Defener brigade

Just spent an hour on the phone with the NFU for a quote of £1120. Even with a voluntary £1000 excess it's still north of 900 quid! I don't understand why it's so expensive! I'm not even putting business use on it.

I just bought a new Isuzu d Max blade after PX ing my Vw Touareg. Private use only, I was able to use my 10 years NCB and all for under £400.
The insurance was with Aviva arranged through my broker who is Mannings.
I much prefer to use a broker as they allways do all the leg work.
Comparison websites I have found just don't understand anything other than bog standard cars.

Might be worth talking to Alan & Thomas http://www.alan-thomas.co.uk/about-us
They are the company that have recently been offering good prices on RIB insurance, but also sorted me out a good deal on my motor insurance when I couldn't get any sense out if anyone else.
Like phoenixpete said, unless you fit easily into the tick boxes then a decent broker is worth any number of comparison sites.
