Poor Quality Trailer parts

My trailer, like many others, uses off the shelf ALKO axles.
Disappointed today to commence my Annual pre-season service of trailer, and on all bar one of the brake shoes the linings had come off.
These are glued on linings ... and they were all with plenty of life (only 18 months years old)
Never seen linings come off like this before.

Hubs were not stuck on, shoes were not in 'brake on' position.
The only explanation I can think of is inferior quality brake shoes.

The corner damage is I assume being knocked inside drum after coming off the shoe.

It’s not necessarily “inferior” parts. This is a normal occurrence with boat trailer brakes. It’s caused by water getting between the shoe & lining and the rust blows the lining off (ooer matron) There are companies that will re-line the shoes using the traditional riveted method.

Go for riveted brake linings. You’ll still need to strip down the assembly annually, but at least you can reuse the shoes for another season. Spring kits are par for the course.

I used these. I had an old set of shoes grit blasted and painted, then sent them for re-lining.

No idea, it was years ago. Not particularly expensive though IIRC.
