Sadly this is the way things are going with many manufacturers.... Its all spin, spin and more marketing spin.

They try to entice potential buyers into believing that because of the (calculated) 125hp 3cyl 1.0litre engine in their new Fiesta, its capable of uprooting a tree stump!!!
In reality, because it's an engine which can be carried in a Tesco shopping bag and the throw of the pistons is shorter than my fully extended.... Ermm.... middle finger, it's only really capable of developing an absolute minimum of torque! This is the same for many modern cars these days.

One of my vans is a 2010 berlingo 1.6hdi. 92hp version. Fantastic van and quite pokey if it's unloaded but as soon as you hook the little Ifor trailer up to it.... Its buggered and almost dead in the water!

Don't believe the hype people, it's easy to boost HP figures on any engine but it's the torque which is gonna be doing the work. Always check the torque figures!!! ;-)

Incidentally we bought a 1.6 petrol qashqai for the missus last year, really happy with it, it's about 115hp (and as it's the wife's car the torque is irrelevant) but doesn't pretend it's anything it's not. Relatively good mpg 's as well.

Why not just go for an X-Trail with the 1.9 diesel.
I've found it to be a great car and tow vehicle
5 years old, 130,000miles, Avg 39.5mpg
Tyre wear good 30k miles fromnt pair, 40k rear
2nd set of brakes - but duenow for renewal
Still on orihinal clutch despite lots of steep slipway launch / recover
