My last car was an xtrail which managed okay ish with my boat but was close to the max of 2200kg for the car. My xc90 can only technically tow 2250kg due to the way Volvo rate it. The difference is absolute night and day towing the same rib though, it wasn't if the clutch went but when. I guess that is the difference between a big 4x4 and an suv, weight helps towing stability.

The Tiguan and a BMW 335d xdrive Tourer weight much the same, yet the Tiguan can tow 2500kgs and the BMW 1800kgs. The BMW has about 50% more power. Doesn't really make much sense to me, others may have an answer.

Going from a disco 3 to the Tiguan I was concerned about the weight difference but I was surprised at how well it towed. I’ll dig the log book out and look at the towing Weight sure it’s 2440kgs.

Depending on model, the Tiguan can tow up to 2500kg

Ok I’ll check my log book as it depends on model. I did a quick google and saw that 2200kgs.

I've been through the specs for all models as I have them - towing weight is 2000kg on all models inc. the top range Edition 4x4 DSG 190HP. - unless you know different.

Likely to be Jan before I get it - pain as MOt / Tax isdue in Dec, but that's life -should have made decsion earlier, but busy with other stuff.

I did like the large boot - even with seats up can get daughters' ful size cello in -some of the others - CX5, Forrester, it wouldn't fit.

Other thing I liked is Skoda can set servici interval to 20000miles as I do mainly motorway work cruising at 70, minimal stop start urban work

Go for the Tiguan then, it has more towing capacity, just checked my log book and I can tow up to 2300kgs [emoji4]

The Kodiaq 100% can tow 2500kg but only 1 model does it. It has to be a 5 seat 4x4 dsg 190hp and a certain model spec from memory.

The 7 seat the limit drops to 2000kg I think.

Tiguan is too small for me.

Oh, if you are not a badge snob or don't care about resale then the new ssangyong rexton is good for up to 3000kg and I think it has a proper auto box...hardly a small car though if that bothers you. Looks decent value for money if you intend to keep or pcp it

Normal 4x4 2l Tigun is 25% more than similar Kodiaq with far smaller boot.

[emoji23] I am not a badge snob but many more are, the reason for going VW over Skoda is the guaranteed future valve was a lot higher for the Tiguan. So was a win win for me.

Guess it depends how long you want to keep the car - I'll run mine for 8 years 200k miles, so won't much value left whatever I buy!

Even so the residual value won't cancel out an £8k difference in purchase price.

Well everyone's deicsion making process and circumstances are different.

I still am not sure the additional up front cost comes back in RV, if they do great.

My policy of getting the car that ticks all my boxes ffor least full life cost will last 7-8 years and running it until it nearly dies works for me

I must admit to being sceptical about moving over to Hyundai after years of being a Toyota landcruser owner.

Having spoken with fleet buyers who buy for the car hire business as well as taxi drivers both here and the UK I decided the sheer savings in running costs to out do any end value of my Santa Fe.

Towing long distances around Australia I'm now using 9lt per 100km and 6.1lt per 100km not towing. By the time I reach 250000 km I would save $12-$15000 in fuel alone over my landcruser.

The fact this manufacturer has won so many awards these days as best car in many category's is making their secondhand value creep up to that of any other vehicle too.

The comfort level on 1200km per day drives is what I like the most and the fact I can save so much at the fuel pump.

If you watch this video the Holden vehicles are Vauxhall. All car making plants have now shut their doors in this country, simply couldn't compete against the overseas vehicles.
