They are seriously meaty - I drove one a few times. What are they like on fuel though???

IMHO the V6 is the best option having tried both when I was making my mind up. The V10 is very quick 0-62mph in 7.4seconds however the handling definately felt more cumbersome with the weight of the V10 hanging over the front wheels. The V6 is still very quick for a 4x4 (8.3 seconds) but the handling was the clincher for me.

The V10 has air suspension and a few other things as standard over the other models - handling in South Devon isn't an issue as all of the Grockles and tractors mean you can't go that quick and it'll tow a jumbo jet (really!)

Got to be honest I really don't like air suspension on anything. The toerag I drove along with a new Discovery made me feel sick on the motorway.

Offroad they allow you to jack the vehicle up for extra ground clearance but it totally ruins the ride as the airbags have more pressure in them. My old v8 110 feels like a magic carpet offroad in comparison.

Probably the very best diesel on the market at the moment is the new 3L V6 jaguar engine which will also go in the LR - it really is awesome. I would love to see that VW V10 in a boat though!!!

What sort of driving is giving 30.4 with a Toerag?

Our Disco 3 wont do much better than 25 locally.

what about the V8 though codders? i had a rangerover TDV8HSE and it made the old 2.7TDV6 seem like a gutless noisy tractor!
bloody good on fuel too....28mpg normal motorway speed and 39mpg when we were sat at 55 on the m25

Embarrased loads of chavs in at southend on saturday evening too
left them tyre smoking and axle tramping at the lights in their Jap turbo front wheel drive fibreglass mobile jukebox F***up In complete silence! surely the new v6 cant be better than the TDV8?
I dont like V6 engines....inherently unbalanced and funnily enough so are V10s

30.4 is the published combined performance

I get 35 on a run and about 23 locally however a lot depends on your right foot.

Mines quite heavy

Maybe not better but it's damn close for a lot less money!!!

The new V6 puts out 275 hp and has a massive 443 lb-ft of torque.

The TDV8
Max Power: 271hp @ 4,400rpm
Max Torque: 640Nm (472lb ft)

So the new V6 is quite an achievement - much better on fuel as well.

I agree about unbalanced though - the ultimate is a straight 6 or a V12.

I will have the V8.....more torques and better balanced without the need for balance shafts.

I really want to put a TDV8 in my series 2, just waiting for unlocked ECUs to be available or mega-squirt ecu's for diesels which are supposed to be under development for racing.
I will stick with the 2.8TDI for now that pulls like a train

The V10 Touareg is available on a 05 or 55 for well under £20k, and the equivalent RR is £7 -10k more than that, and I know which one I would have if they were even the same price!

Fair enough cookee, but your talking to a landrover man here, common sense doesnt come into it

Everyone thought i was mad when i chopped up that ISUZU trooper to put the engine in the landrover. anyone with an Oz of common sense would have driven around in the trooper

Obviously I'm not trying to convert a Land Rover fan (I used to live fairly close to the factory and converted a 1973 Rangie into a Daker buggy) - just trying to point out that the car I own has it's merits when looking at tow vehicles.
