Towing sib with quad
Feel a bit guilty always having to drive my dads car right onto the beach and risking getting it stuck as well as reducing the life of the chassis etc. So I have decided a quad may be a worth while investment.
I have a 4m sib with 25hp outboard. The whole outfit must weight in at under 200-250kg. With that in mind what size quad would be required? My dad thinks a 250cc would be fine but just wanted to ask to see what other people think. It is only to nip it to the beach which is literally a 2 minute drive from our caravan.
Cheers

250 should be up for it no problem, my friend has a 400 4x4 for the farm and that drags trees around.
As Ian says, once you get one then bad weather stops being a problem as you go out quading instead

Not old enough to drive it on the road yet so that will be up to my parents but I am sure I will find a few trails
Nice to know a 250 is big enough, is a 200 risking it a bit much?

More choice up to 250 and I was thinking more of beaches than trails, however are you sure you don't need a licence and insurance on a public beach anyway?

You see? Now that you think dad might nick it you're thinking of insurance.
On a more positive note, it would be up to your father to insure it or add it to his fleet. I imagine it would be in the region of £100-£150 per year.
Maybe less, limited mileage, mature driver/owner.
Ring a few companies, speak to dad.

that's not bad at all really. And tax for a quad is going to be bugger all surely. Tbh when you think about the damage the salt water does to a care it is probably a worth while investment....

Pitch it to your father as an "investment" and you'll never get the quad.
Tell him it will stop his car rusting and you're onto a winner.
SERIOUSLY.

Tell you what, look around at farm equipment sales and farm shops and you'll find what you want for about £400.
It'll get salty and rusty and farmers don't generally buy kit that let's them down. That's why Subaru's and Toyota's litter their yards.
Get a cheap farmer's quad that runs and you'll see if it's for you. You might even knock one down for £200.
I think that's the way to go.

Keep looking......and try new avenues, local papers, farmers' rags and auction sites.
Good luck.
Let us know how it goes.
