Towing to Eire

We're thinking of towing the rib to Ireland again next year. It's the first time since the great uncoupling and we'll be towing down through NI this time because we now live in Scotland. Does anyone have any practical experience of towing accross the border?

My understanding is that a boat being towing into Europe for recreational use is a 'temporary import' and that you're undertaking to remove it again at the end of your holiday.

Yes. I've regularly towed RIBs from NI to this Eire* place that you refer to. Despite the best efforts of your compatriots, I'm delighted to report that...

There is no border - we're VERY strict about that...

* An Anomaly, named as such on our Passports and Postage Stamps, curiously, only the English refer to it as such, the Scots and the Welsh seem to be in the know. Even the Americans are in on the joke, although they DO lay it on a bit thick with "Emerald Isle".

Oh good. Let us hope it stays that way.

Thanks for the reassurance though Willk. I had heard as much but was just looking for some first hand experience of how its actually working in practice.

Apologies for any offence: I referred to the country as such purely for the clarity of the reader and even then only in the Title. I'll have you know I am a proud Scot myself; born and raised in Cumbernauld! And throughout the 40something years I've been travelling to North Tipp I have always referred to the country as Ireland.

Looking forward to seeing Lough Derg again after a four year layoff, five by the time we get there!
