Towing with a camper - what size boat?
I am looking at replacing my estate with a camper, probable a VW T4. I know what I can legally tow behind this but I was wondering what I could sensibly and comfortably tow - would a 6 to 6.5m RIB with twin 60hp outboards be ok?
Cheers,
Mike

I used to pull my 6.5 Humber/200hp behind my 1974 Bedford camper and it was fine.

My RIB & trailer is around 1450kg and I've towed it all over the place with a 6m coachbuilt motorhome. It struggles on some slipways and TBH, slipways are the only area where you need to take care.
If you're looking at a van conversion VW T4, rather than a coachbuilt, this would probably cope better with slipways, as the vehicle would be lighter than mine.
I reckon a 6.5m RIB would be no problem.

Can you fit one of them inside the camper?

I'd only entertain the 2.5TDI from 2000 on. The 2.4 non-turbo and 1.9 are both flatter than a witches t*t.

towing with a T4
Hi Mike i've got a 96 Caravelle 2.4 non turbo and its obviously not the quickest thing on the road & it only has to pull an SR4 but its adequate even with the Mrs on board. As already stated your best van option would be an intercooled 2.5 (102bhp) the standard 2.5's 88bhp i think? Good sound vans though generally.
