Trailer Boards

I & I'm sure many others despise the bloody things but until I can find some spare cash for a delightful Vanclaes trailer I'm stuck with the Extreme unit that I've currently got.

Last night half way home the trailer lights on both sides had vibrated themselves to bits and the indicator wires in the plug had Bothe come loose with the screw still tight in pin 1 & 4.

Im thinking of making my own rather than paying £150 for another of the mediocre tat that the OEM offers (and the rest of the boat trailer market offer).
Thinking of putting a pair of identical sealed LED light clusters on each side for duplicate failure and increased light output but I need something to attach them too....
Before I attempt to get some aluminium fabricated & folded does anyone have any suggestions for an off the shelf metal "board" that might be suitable?

Due to the design of the trailer the very convent magnetic LED wireless units just aren't suitable for this application.

Any other ideas or suggestions fire away....

The last trailer board I made was using Upvc window cill board. Your local Eurocell or Roundband will be able to supply it for not a lot.
PS, look at Aspoeck light clusters, cost an arm & a leg but top quality.

Yup. It has a return on one edge which normally forms the front vertical edge of the interior window cill, the return gives rigidity. I think I’ve an offcut in the shed somewhere, I’ll see if I can get a photo.

This kind of stuff. You want the solid foam filled type, not the hollow type. If you go to your local eurocell/Gap/roundband place, they usually have damaged lengths & offcuts to hand for beer money.

I bought a couple of these merc number plate and light holders from seller in Braintree ,
not sure if merc lights are submersible as i used my own but brilliant mounting system ,bullet proof plastic ,u bolt to trailer side runners and run 7 core up each trailer side and terminate (2x7core) in 13 pin plug at front of trailer

I don't use a trailer board'

I have an upright either side at the rear of the trailer so the lights are above the waterline when I back into the water and they are also a guide to line the boat up when I am retreiving it. So, I don't have to remove them.

Problem tho' in accordance with our laws, you need another two uprights half way down the trailer for clearance lamps. But, also aid with driving the boat onto the trailer.
