Good Afternoon All,

Just enquiring if anyone has had any difficulties when trying to insure a trailer fitted with these axles.

Many Thanks.

In 35 years of owning & insuring boats, I’ve never been asked what type of axles the trailer(s) have had. Is this a problem you’ve encountered or are you considering a purchase & testing the water?

Fair enough, I can’t see why there would be a problem 🤷*♂️

I see no reason why you would have problems insuring with any axle fitted, I've never been asked about axles or any other trailer parts. Assuming they are uk type approved there should be no issue even in the event of an accident or claim involving the axles which is probably the only time they will be looked at.

They look interesting, but the website doesn't give a lot of detail.

The concern with Disc brakes is always in regard to reversing.
In the UK trailers have to have auto reverse brakes, and if they don't that could invalidate your insurance following an assessor inspecting the trailer after an accident.

Edit, found a mention of auto reverse on page 26 of their catalogue which I found via the UK distributors website:
https://www.marcar.co.uk/wp-content/...compressed.pdf
[I]"• problemlose Rückfahrautomatik
trouble-free reversing mechanism
Marche-arrière automatique irréprochable"

UK - https://www.marcar.co.uk/product_cat...s/light-axles/

The WAP (marcar)disc brakes are auto reverse.

I had a approx price for a 1500 kg to match my standard snipe trailer width for 5x112 stud spacing £1100 ....current mersea price for 1500kg is £500 so a buy one get one free scenario really , think the complete Vancleas trailers are a much better option imo

Currently £1295 each with optional £25 oil-filled bearings plus transport (£140) plus VAT.
An alternative here without discs but including VAT, if you search their website for brake discs they advertise mechanical callipers only (no discs) at £338 each incl VAT.

Those knott axles you linked look interesting if assuming the whishbones are reasonably cheap to replace it would save changing a full axle if you damaged a stub & hopefully the wishbone with brake assembly could be replaced for far less than a torsion beam axle when the inevitable rotten hubs & back plates need renewing
