IF ...& ...MIGHT (just missing the "maybe")....oft said to be the last refuge of those ...without a valid point to make
I have Towed the length and breadth of this Great Island...for many years..Transporters Plant..and Boats
Legal & Safe has always been my priority!....but hey,if you want to stress and analise and Navel gaze about (IF or MIGHT) your number plate is 2" the "wrong" side ...that's You're choice.
My point ...Its Just bloody Boring

Nicely found sir, that isn't where I seen it though but the RYA probably got it from where I did, which was probably the DVLA site as I've been looking at the regs when making these bloody waterproof lights.

And there’s the rub, whilst ever you’re on your home turf you’re relatively safe. It’s not until you venture out of your comfort zone, & head south of Dover, that you realise how easy we have it here. We are without doubt one of, if not the, least regulated countrie(s) in Europe when it comes to boats & trailers. Foreign plod needs little excuse to extract some weekend beer money out of naive tourists.

Yet Another good reason to stay in the UK then Dave! ....and to extricate ourselves from VERY likely future over regulation! ..
I hear what you're saying but A safe trailer in the UK is still Safe Trailer on the Continent IMO.....even if you do have to modify things?? to placate the foreign powers that be...and conform to their regs. After all Is it really so different..
....Having said that I think the Euro police would spend their time much more productively by scrutinising some of their HGV "Sheds" I've seen over here!
Being an Island Race we seem to have a different attitude to the Sea than our European friends...and the ancient freedoms to persue the many pursuits we ALL cherish.....long may it continue!
When I go to (Coastal) France again...I certainly won't be going via Dover ......It will be in my RIB via the South Coast ....as before

No pain no gain. [emoji6]
I don’t mind it tbh, but then I’m geared up for it. It’s not until you venture abroad that you realise how easy we have it here. People who are always calling for “compulsory this” & “obligatory that” should be careful what they wish for. Maybe the ease of boating & lack of regulation accounts for our thriving RIB scene.
Anyway, we’re wandering waaay off topic.

Max, I’ve reminded myself how easy the ban button works on here... I’m sure you are not making any political points though so my refreshed skills will not be needed will they?

i think that all our uk used knott and alko hitches ,axels ,braking system etc are all tuv tested in germany anyway ,combine that with european marked light clusters and tyres with the desired carrying capacity, take your paperwork (manufacturer suplied ) to your iva test centre with your trailer which has been put together in line with the notes and thats it ,you cant really fail ,theoretically even if the runners are made of fencing stakes lashed together with string there isnt any guidelines about that !
i think the real purpose of iva is to generate a registration mark for the trailer and subsequently an annual test but until such times i see no reason why driving abroad in EU needs nothing more than driving a post 2011 trailer in the uk

I’ve read that a couple of times, & I’m genuinely still not sure what it says.
Re towing abroad, if your trailer is UK legal & being towed by a UK registered vehicle, then you are ok regardless of age.
Re. The construction, since 2014 all UK built trailers have to comply with the eu directive, hence the appearance of fixed lights & side markers.

Seem as my trailer is made in Holland I reckon I’m ok for towing in Europe [emoji16]
And the waterproof lights have been a bonus recovering in the dark on Loch Lomond

Lights are ready now, just need the new poles galvanised and I'm good.
Looks good and may save 5 mins launching and recovering .....not worth the hassle or money though, get an led trailer board.
