Dave - do you lock the rear swing beam when driving on/off the trailer ?
I assume when you are approaching slowly and winch up it works well - as in their demo video .
If you drive on I would assume that this long swing beam will move rapidly up & down when driving on - coming along with a big "bang" when metal hits metal ..

Hi Jurgen, I never lock the rear beam. The locking pin is only if you’re towing the trailer without a boat on it, to stop it from bouncing. The beam is pivoted off centre so that the weight is at the front. The boat needs to be well engaged into the rollers before the beam starts to pivot. It works well. I’ve never had a problem in the various launch/recovery scenarios I’ve encountered. Saying that, I try & pick easy launches now, slips/harbours/marinas etc. I never beach launch anymore.

Hi Dave - thanks - that's sounds great .
When going on the trailer it seems to me that if you miss due to wind / waves / water flow / inability of operator [emoji6] the Center there is a chance to get with the sharp bow between the right or left beam rollers and the keep scrapes on the metal .
Is that an issue or does it look only on the pictures so concerning ?

Vanclaes disc braked trailer

It all depends how you set the rear beam up. Mine protrudes past the end of the chassis, so the first thing the boat can hit is the rearmost rollers on the swing beam. You’d have to be way off target or in some severely sh1t conditions to get it wrong. We’ve pulled the boat on with a cross current that had the boat nearly at 90deg to the trailer, but as soon as the winch gets the weight she pulls around & squares up. There’s a lot of movement, not only on the cradle but also on the individual roller beams. The whole setup moulds to the bow & holds it securely. It’s a much better setup than traditional roller coaster type trailers.

Thanks Dave .
The Scorpion diesel is a different beast than my Vipermax and being often single handed I want to make sure to have a well setup trailer .
Waiting for the offer from Vanclaes now ..

Aye! That’s a fair old lump to be managing single handed. I have an electric winch on my trailer. I might be looking at something similar for yours with a remote control. It might help when you’re single handed.

I am looking at a WARN TABOR 5540kg
It's relatively "cheap"
I sent the bolt pattern to Vanclaes to make me an adapter .
I want to slide the manual or electrical winch simply on/off the winch post and to keep it when not used on the car .
The battery box remains on the trailer .
Connection via high amp NATO socket / plug.
The winch for my Vipermax was a bit undersized but with the wireless remote control I could winch the boat in & out with me on the helm . Worked great.

I have a Dutton Lainson on mine. I originally powered it off a stand-alone battery, that was housed in a stainless box on the trailer A frame. It was charged via the 13pin Trailer plug. I’ve taken the battery off now & have a 350A plug on the back of the van wired to the van battery. Saves 50kg of weight on the nose. Plus I now know that the battery is always good.
The DL winch also has the facility to manual wind should the electrics go tits up. I replaced the winch webbing strap with a 12mm Dyneema rope with a stainless 750kg hook spliced onto it.

Super happy with mine and the pneumatic rollers they have kept shape over time think they have about 2 psi in
As Dave has said the oil filled bearings are the way to go
We’ve just been to Loch Lomond and recovered in the dark the trailer lights were a big help and my lad could drive it straight on with very little winching for the old git at the front [emoji849]
Launching is so easy as well
So if you’ve got the cash I wouldn’t hesitate
As Dave says get it set up correctly and you won’t know it’s on the motor

Nano coating - did you guys order your trailers with nano coating ??
Sounds to me a bit like snake oil or miracle cure ..
I am aware that this trailer made of stainless steel will be stained over life - especially using in saltwater .
If applied - is that for life time ?
Worth it ???

Mick has it, I don’t. It wasn’t an option when I got mine, early adopter [emoji849]. I have more staining that Mick, that said, I probably wouldn’t have it given the choice. If you are prepared to accept that there will be some degree of staining, then you probably won’t miss it. It looks like a lacquer type coating that has bee sprayed on after the trailer has been assembled. Consequently when you start adjusting the trailer & moving “U” bolts/brackets etc, there are bare patches underneath. I use this for cleaning light staining, very effective [emoji106]

Not sure if it’s worth it or not the water still beads on it and runs off if you get it done ask them to do it before assembly then it all gets done
I got a bit of nano guard off a lad that does car detailing to top it up.

Hi Mick, do you know if there is a way to fit those rollers on a standard roller trailer? Mines a bramber roller. I need to find a way of lifting the boat up on the trailer by a couple inches so the keel doesn’t rest on the centre roller ...Click image for larger version

It’s going to be down to your spindle length and diameter I guess

You should be able to raise the legs on the roller brackets to gain height. The problem is usually the other way around, I.e getting the boat as low as possible on the trailer to aid launching.

Got yesterday the commercial offer - still feel dizzy ..
I was playing on their site with the configurator and came with the disc brakes + other items to 11.000 EUR - which is already a lot of money ..
What I did not know - this is the "basic" version of the trailer .
The GYRO Trailer is 5k more ...
Not sooo sure anymore whether I am ready to pay an amount for what I can purchase 3 new normal mild steel zinc trailers with drum brakes and just service them every year ..
Need to sleep over it ..

Not wishing to put a spanner into your discussion but I talked at length to the Vanlcaes guys at the boat show, we thought we were on the same wavelength but it turned out we weren't - they were horrified when they found out I intended to submerge the trailer brakes each time the trailer went into the water. They clearly expected that the roller system was so good it wouldn't be necessary. I'm not suggesting yeh or nay, just passing on their thoughts.
