What Clip ????

Hi all

Would like to know what other people use on their rope/strop, to launch their rib, our boat is about 3 tons.

We brought the strongest carbine hook from force 4 ,but on pulling the boat up the slipway it bent the clip.

Any tips or ideas would be much appreciated .

Cheers

With that weight of boat I would use a standard shackle.

3 tons is a lot of boat - as above, I'd be looking at proper lifting gear, or there are some snap shackles out there for larger yachts that will take upwards of 3 tons.

The "captive pin" shackles used for halliards might be a good place to start - the big brother of these:

Wichard Captive Shackle With Bar 8mm - Duncan Yacht Chandlers

....and you can't loose the pin or the shackle!

At that weight I'd be looking at floating her on a bit more. You can beef up the winch, strop and shackle but then most likely rip the towing eye out the front of your boat...

Cheers for the replys

The problem is when the boat is pulled out of the water and up the slip way , we cannot always recover at high tide so often have a long pull up the slip way, we do have a safety line just in case but i would not want to rely on it !

We have a old tractor that we use but we also use a landrover 90 when the tractors not playing !
