Looks like a Fulton one to me. Indespension used to sell them, may be worth checking if they still do. Part number was WN007. It had a brake on it too.

Ditch the strap & get a 10-12mm Dyneema rope made up.

Thinking of doing that so I could put a double pulley system on as it's b hard to pull the boat up onto the trailer. 10mm Dyneema has a breaking strain of 10000kg! Does it need to be that thick?

I know the feeling, we had the same got fed up with struggling with it so got a Winchmax 4000lb 12v with jet wash attachment never looked back.
From clipping on the rib to being on the trailer about a minute - just by pressing a button.
I have a 45AH battery in a separate battery box in the back of the car which charges as I drive.
Not for everybody but may be worth considering.

Nope, but price wise not much different when you consider the splicing is the same whether it's 6 or 10mm. Also the 10mm will be easier to handle & less prone to cutting into its self on the drum.

Am I missing something ? The loads your talking about, you could haul your boats vertically up the harbour wall. I reverse the car/trailer down the slip, trim out the engine and drive the boat onto the trailer right up to the snubbing block. Even lifting it off tyres in the driveway onto the trailer didn't take that much toll on the winch. If you're getting to these kind of loads I'd be getting concerned about pulling the "U"bolt out of the front of the boat or shearing it ??

Winch
I don't think they are buying it for its load rating, more for its ease of use.
It doesn't rust or have sharp bits like wire rope, it doesn't trap salt water like straps do and its durable as its unaffected by salt and UV.
