1993ish mariner 15hp

Hi all,

Been offered a mariner 15hp at a good price and it looks tidy.
Are they generally a good motor and what is the spares availability?
I love my 9.9hp evinrude but parts are difficult to come by now so thought a power upgrade might be in order if spares are easy to get!

Thanks in advance.

Brilliant motors. For top money look at 2000-on but at the right price older ones are OK. Just make sure it starts OK from cold and runs cleanly. I have known folks suffer electrical running issues on these earlier ones. Spares usually not a problem.

What spec, age and condition is your ‘rude? I might be looking for a 9.9 later in the year.

Generally, I like the simplicity of the old 2 strokes. Can’t remember now, but that mariner might be a rebadged Yamaha, which’d make it a good engine. 1993 is still very old though, so make sure you verify it’s condition carefully.

My rude is a triggers Broom so no idea what age it is. It's got some parts that suggest it's old but it's got the cable throttle which suggests newer.
It runs sweet as a nut. I originally bought it intending to upgrade it to a 15hp by replacing the carb but they just aren't available.
If I do decide to sell it, it will be on here first.

Well it seems a good price to me at 400 quid and looks tidy on the outside.
It's a fair way away but I'm up that way in a couple of weeks so if its still available I will Bob by and have a look.
