If its a Yam expect to pay over £1,000 for a 15hp. A decent, modern Mercury/Mariner (2002 +) 15hp will set you back over £900.
25hp Yams circa £1250 - £1650. Merc's around £1200.
Cheaper options are Johnson, Evinrude, Suzuki. Every now and then a bargain comes along. Like the guy on here who bought a 2000 Yam 15 for £650.
I've a Yam 25hp 2 stroke on here at the moment for £1,495 or near offer.

Got my 25 Merc of Peter about this time last year(ish) for bang on what he has said . I reckon its held it value to the pound.
A mate has a mint Johnson GT (13ish hp) paid £800 for it last year but others now going for £1000.
Always a bargain out here but unfortunatley they are the real exception and not the market price. Its been said that you can buy an entire rig with an angine for what the enginemay be on its own & then try and sell the boat etc to make something back....if you have the time and can carry the 'risk'of not selling of course.

As Peter says anything under £700 is likely to be older, less popular make, a bit scuffed or if you are very lucky a chance buy of a good one.
Watching this might give you a guide...
eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace
I have the identical model Mariner 15 short shaft in mint condition... at the peak time of last year (around June I think) and exceptional one like it one like it made £1500 and another £1275.
I'd set a budget of £1250 in your calculations and you'll be near enough.
If you're also considering a 25hp be wary of buying the outboard ahead of the inflatable in case you are over the transom HP spec when you come look at a boat.

I often buy boats just for the motor. Makes better value for money but then you have more risk.
Good luck with your viewing. Hope I works out for you.

No worries. I've not posted to try to sell you mine so don't worry your not obliged to progress any interest. Happy to help.
I generally find Yams sell themselves anyway so it will go, the only question is who to

Oh I know it wasn't a sales pitch Peter.... Lol, I was just saying I was genuinely interested in purchasing a decent outboard
Put a deposit on a futura mk2 fastroller and Yamaha 25hp 2 stroke, all 2003, both can be described as pristine condition
I think I've paid top money for this kit but I don't mind paying for quality kit that's been looked after (from Discmick on this forum)
Thanks for your advice Perter and all For your advice

Well done, that outfit should be great fun. Sometimes better to pay top money for a minter from a contact than assemble a collection from unknown sellers.
That Ebay Mariner 15hp I linked to was a very good buy for someone at £785 assuming it is an OK runner.

Cheers fenlander
Yeah that 15 looked good, and a good price too
I've paid £2300 which I would say is on the high side for 2003 model futura and yam 25, but I really do think I'd struggle to find another in this condition for much less

I reckon a very good price - engine alone in good condition is worth 60-70% of that price ! You'll have bugger all depreciation to worry about if it all stays in good condition.

:-)
It will stay mint. I usually buy mint low mileage motorbikes etc, pay top money for model/year etc but I look after them and don't suffer depreciation.... Always someone willing to buy looked after kit
I'm away for a week before I can collect my new toy..... Then a week in work till I can play with it..... Arrrggghhh

Look at it another way you've paid 800 for the Futura. I think you've done very well. Enjoy!

I would be interested to know roughly the value of my Suzuki 2003 140 2 stroke (fuel and oil injection) runs well and in good condition.
