4 Stroke on a Thundercat?

I can no longer find the post but I remember reading on here that you can only mount a 2 stroke on a thundercat race boat. I'm new to boating but this didn't seem to make any sense to me. Is that true?

Thanks, Mike.

A 4 stroke in the same power category would be a lot heavier and that might be an issue but I can’t see any other reason this would be the case. Most seem to run 50 hp 2 strokes however

Yeah that's what I thought but I just wanted to make sure. I plan on putting a Tohatsu 30hp 4 stroke on it and that will come in well under the weight of a 50hp 2 stroke.

Really appreciate your reply, thank you.

No Problem a 30 should go well on it I recon. No need to go mental

Four strokes go fine on them too, as said the issue is the weight and resulting stress on the transom. But there's quite a few guys now that run the Mercury 60 four strokes on them, I just wouldn't go playing in the surf with that much weight on the back. But they go just fine a 30hp, should get 33+ knots and boat balance will be fine too. With too little weight at the back they don't perform great either so I'd keep the fuel tank aft.

If any manufacturer decides to make a lighter 50hp 4 stroke I think a lot of folk would make the switch, myself included
