40hp outboard question !

I have an engineless Honwave T40AE. The maximum engine size for the boat is rated at 30hp 86kg.

I've been looking around and found these ex Admiralty Mariner 40hp outboards not far from me which I believe weigh in at 75kg.

My question is on the assumption I am not going to use all the power could I fit one to the transom of the Honwave?

are you sure you want to go overpowered by 30%. I would be careful, and think twice, any warranty/insurance claim could be void. In addition the transom may not be able to take the power, and cause damage. That much extra power on a light boat could be problematic.

A good point. I wasn't intending to use the extra power. I just liked the £500 price and wondered if it could be done.
Perhaps not worth it for warranty claims. I be seen some other engines on the Bill Higham site that are worth another look.

I've got a T40AE with a 20hp 4 stroke Mariner outboard and it goes really well I think.

Thanks Doug, thats good to know, a dealer said to me the boat would struggle 4 up with a 20hp on and advised me to go at leat 25hp. I've an opportunity for an ex RNLI 30hp Mariner that is coming up for sale from a dealer next week, but I could have a new 20hp for little more. Decisions !
