You know what, MatfromPoland, I had exactly the same thoughts myself. In fact, it's strange that rrrrrrrrrrrrrr hasn't visited the forum since posting his question, photograph, price and contact details about a "China" RIB

Ribbers on shores near and far
some members have made thoughtful comments to my question, thanks in particular to Richard M, Nick and Deekus.
What I take away from this debate for far is:
- there are quality differences between a China and a EU-made RIB; whether these quality differences actually matter for my intended use is not yet fully clear. I would define myself as having requirements for avg. quality.
- in this community there is a very small number of users who are able to testify ón China-made RIBs based on personal experience; one user seems to be satisfied. Opinions on China-made RIBs run high, not always supported by facts.
- I take that dealer support is important in case things go wrong. This may be the most important argument against importing. Point fully taken.
The picture I posted originally was altered - yes you guessed this right.
Am I disappointed? Yes. Am I surprised? No.
Thanks

True, & the only 2 members that I know that had Chinese ribs, sent them back because the boats literally fell apart. Go figure

Not true.
I'm the 2nd member to post in this thread who's had an x-pro and could not fault. It was a capable 5.3m boat. The chap who bought it from me is still pleased with it 24mths on.

My opinion is that China is in much the same manufacturing position as Japan was in the late 60's. A "Made in Japan" sticker prior to that time pretty much assured that the product was crudely manufactured, and low in quality. Fast forward a few years, and Japanese manufacturing quality had made great strides, improving both designs and manufacturing techniques, eventually becoming on a par with and surpassing other "quality" industrial nations.
China, IMO, is not quite there yet. Some stuff they build is quite good, a lot of it is still garbage. But it's improving. Not to the point where I'd buy something as expensive as a boat without a good eyeballs-on inspection, but certainly better than it was 10 years ago.
Bottom line: I'd be very careful with a purchase, and make sure had a course of action should problems arise.

Yes but what would you do if you were carrying out a professional or academic marketing investigation on behalf of a Chinese company looking to exploit its products in Europe?

Dunno? Maybe stick a few photos, links and questions on RIB fora, tell the users not to make generic negative comments and come back after a few days to see if you got any bites?

If looking for a RIB, why is this inquiry being posted in the SIB section?
