Airdecks. They Fly! Really!
Perhaps I need to get a proper job, because I seem to have enough time to Google daft things.
One such daft thing was something called the Goodyear Inflatoplane, a truly inflatable plane that could be stored in a case 39" by 39" by 20". No metric here!!
The wings were made of 2 airship fabric panels, one on top of the other, joined by...........hundreds of nylon threads!!! Airdeck anyone?
These aircraft flew, and by all accounts they flew well. They took about 10 minutes to inflate, and carried a motorbike engine on a pylon in pusher mode. They were built in the 1950's. Apparently there's still one left.
So there you go. Who'll be the first to make one?
