Avon C
Hi folks,
My mate Bill who is coming down to Cardiff with me has seen this Avon C (12 foot) for sale at £295.00 (no engine). It has a wood floor, no engine, and is supposedly in good repair.
The telephone number is in Redditch, which is quite near Bill (Worcester). The ad says that the bow dodger is in need of 'attention'. This shouldn't be a problem, should it?
Keith (over to you) Hart

Hi Keith
Welcome Back !!!
The Old Avon Inflatabes were - are - excellent boats. The Tubes were made of extremely thick material. The Bow Dodgers are easily replaced - or even removed.
They can be a little heavy, and not as portable as your Quicksilver.
I also think this model was before inflatable keels, so you wil be riding 'flat bottomed' - which can be exciting with any sea running. Having said that I have been out in the South Atlantic in a flat botomed Gemini in VERY heavy seas, and was perfectly safe.
All in all this boat looks excellent value for money - and should take a good sized 2 stroke to drive her along at a fair pace.

My old Bombard Tropic 3.5m was up for sale by the bloke I sold it to.
£595 with 1 x 15hp Evinrude + 1 spare (non-running) Evinrude 15hp.
It was very quick, to quick for me and i love speed.
This had an inflatable keel.
I could try and get the number if Bill wanted?!?

Hi Jahno
I've copied your reply to Bill. Thanks.
Bill has a son Robert (my God son) who has VERY severe cerebral palsy, he can not swallow and has to be fed by tube, he has limited sight and hearing, and is unable to walk or use his arms and hands. Bill and his wife Sally have had to raise money for a special extension to their house to accomodate Robert so they do not have much spare cash.
Cheers

Oh my, oh my, am I in the bad books!
Bill (1st Mate - 'Quicksilver') enjoyed the SoC weekend sooooooo much he telephoned the guy with the Avon and brought it for £250. He's picking it up in the week. Just the engine to sort out now.
The bad books? Well yes, Sally (Bill's 'er indoors), she is blaming me.

Hi there,
Thanks John I will speak to Bill about it.
How is the boat? It's a wonder that there weren't any other damaged the same way.
Ribald - Too true, fortunately I don't live in Worcester.
Regards

Hi
Bill has seen this engine for sale:
http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/p...4167&xreferer=
I would think the Avon needs a short shaft engine. Would the Evinrude be any good?
Cheers

Hi folks
We have a new SIBster....Bill purchased the Avon and it is now at home in his garage.
Jahno, we have not heard from Simonsi yet.
Can any one tell Bill if the Johnson engine seen here :
http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/p...4167&xreferer=
Would be suitable for the Avon? Does it need to be a shortshaft engine only?
Cheers

Looks a bit old and 6Hp is a bit small, I used a 9.9 on the same size of SIB and it was just about right. I would think I will see a better engine for the same sort of price on the 28th.
