Avon s340 pressures.

So i collected my new little fishing sib yesterday. After arsing around with the floorboards for an hour I finally got it inflated. But there are no pressures printed on the tubes. Does anyone know what I should be inflating them to? And of course the keel. Click image for larger version

Probably about 240 mb tube , 220 mb keel.

Basically, if you are using a footpump and it is very hard to step on, you are at the correct pressure.

I remember having hours of fun with the floor boards of an Avon sportsboat as a kid

Try an oar under each side with the boat just inflated (i.e. just enough pressure to give the tubes a little bit of shape.) it seems to help align the boards and allows the stringers to go in more easily, its still a pig to do

I think tube pressure needs to be a bit less than suggested above, 2-3psi ? These older Avons are not designed to be as rigid as modern boats and they do flex a bit (disconcerting if you are not used to it), but they perform well and seem to have good longevity.

Cheers guys, I found the only way to do it is to put #1 board in the front. Then assemble 2,3&4 out of the boat with the stringers, then fit the back under the transom block, interlock the 1&2 then push it down. It's a tiny thing, can't believe they would even float with a 25hp!!!

Isn't the keel usually higher pressure than the tubes? My quicksilver was...

the correct pressure is 3-3.5 psi handbook keel 2-2.5psi i found the floor is a pig to fit until i used a straight piece of ply under tubes that helped fitting stringers when deflating leave keel inflated then deflate tubes that helps getting stringers out.

Thanks for that! There was literally no way the stringers we're going in after the floor, hence why I had to do it the way I described.

ps the ply is to keep the floor sections level if the section are a tiny bit out of line the stringers won,t go in ,also press them in with your foot.

Assuming they are the original floor panels and stringers they will but it is a knack... however whatever works for you is fine. I was given the "oars under" tip by the guy who sold us our first SIB and it can make the difference between near impossible and quite easy.

I've certainly always found the old Avon/Zodiac wooden floors loads easier than modern alloy floor types.
