It’s fairly common practice when boating in waterways with HP restrictions to badge a larger motor as a smaller motor which share the same architecture.....

It would be worth checking out "The Gurnards" youtube videos, if you havent already done so....he has a smaller sib, ( mostly in his earlier vids) with a 6hp yahaha 4 stroke, that purrs like a kitten and sips the juice.....it appears to have an integral tank, and a remote tank. He has travelled about a million miles around the West of Scotland, in all weathers with his one. It's worth taking note of his extensive experience.

I had also heard that the yamaha HP is measured at the prop, and not the powerhead like many others. This may give you a power advantage, for the "same" HP rating.

Worth checking out.

+1 the gurnard I'm sure all modern engines are measured at the prop though might be wrong
