Best sib for 8hp

What are the best sibs for a 2 stroke 8hp Yamaha outboard? Is an air floor best?

Thanks

100% get an air floor . Honwave I think I'd be looking at - maybe the 2.7 ish one?

Having said that I got an excel 260 that I though was very very good value.

I have the same engine on a Zodiac 3.1 with hard floor. It goes very well with two adults and 40l of fuel.

Solid floor is best for performance.

Best SIBs are Avon, obviously. An R2.80 or R3.10 Rover would be good with 8hp.

I do have a xm260 here with the inflatable floor insert, but it's only rated for 6hp is it worth changing?

Change the boat to suit an 8hp ? I wouldn't ...(unless you want something bigger and you find something super super super cheap)

Stick the 8 on and off you go. It not like you go wave jumping !

Seriously I'd not worry about the 'rated' hp on that between a 6 & 8 ...

Cool! can't wait to try it. I need to weave a little magic on it first though before racing the fastcat

My mate uses a tohatsu 9.8 2 stroke on his little waveline 2.7 (air floor) which has a 6hp limit. It goes very well but when he's on his own needs to sit a bit further forward using a tiller extension to make it a bit less flighty.

I guess the main problem could be getting insurance.

If portability & ease of assembly is a must have go fo an air floor, larger models are 3.40 and under, larger carries more load and are much easier to plane than shorter ones which have more hull drag to deal with. if you get bored in the future with your 8 HP could place a larger 9.8 up to 15 HP engine and keep same lenght sib.

Happy Sibbing

Well I have a Zodiac 2.85m SIB with a solid floor and air keel.

It went well with my 6hp Mariner on it, achieving 15mph. However it goes a lot better with the Tohatsu 9.8, making an easy 20mph on the GPS with two of us on board, using a 9.5 pitch prop (up from the 8.5 supplied as standard)

So I would recommend you go for a solid floor with air keel, as at higher speeds it's still easy to control and to steer.
