best sib for a 9.8

Hi all, I would like your viwes on the best sib for a 9.8 st tohatsu if you have a 9.8 what sib do you have and how does it proform,ie water over the transome ect, I hate the air floor I have (europe sport 3.2m) it seams to buckel when under load I do inflate to the correct pressures, I'm not bothered regarding weight ect I can recover the trailer with a winch
Thanks

With a 9.8 is better to count with a + 320 and up larger sib, will have less hull drag to overcome faster than with a smaller one. Air decks if not top inflated will buckel when on plane, worst on choppy waters.

How about a 330 or slight larger rib ?

Happy Boating

I have a 2.9 sunsport with air deck provided you inflate to right pressure and trim the engine no problem and great fun.

Have a long shaft also that had a lot of water coming over the transom. Short shaft is bob on see for yourself.....

I was very very happy with the 9.8 on my Zodiac 340 - 17 kts or so max 1.5 up. Any of the 340 ish big brands will be a good match, Zodiac, Quicksilver, Honwave etc

I'm going to suggest sticking with a flat air floor if you are going larger, they plane with less power than a like for like V airfloor needs.

I would go for one of the 310 Zodiac group boats.

I think I will be looking out for something the same size (3.2m) or larger with a ply or aluminium floor,

i reckon 9.8s are the ultimate is transportable power to weight ratio with fully inflatable sibs. everything goes in the trunk easy enough. a 3.1 to 3.4 would be good for 1-2up?

I have a 9.8 on a bombard aerotech 380 . It planes two 90kg blokes and 30kg of kit and 12l fuel. very manageable setup but not great if you want 3-4ppl

In truth I'd start with what sib do you need for your use then see if the engine still suits.

I would say SIBer's experience of an easy Tohatsu 9.8 powered plane with 2 adults, 2 kids, full fuel tank and kit is unusual unless adults are very light weight and kids toddlers. Most people find a 15hp is required to get that performance.

I want a sib for fishing with me and a friend combined weight 180-190kg a light tackel bag and 12lt fuel tank, I do go out on my own so I need to be able to recover it alone.

try and get a boat no more than 40kg then , the bombard is 43kg I think and even with the light 9.8 on the back and zodiac launch wheels , beach launches on soft sand or steep slippery slipways you will struggle on your own , a few times I have had to take the engine of and carry that to the water separately .

monkey thats what I do anyway, I push the boat down on the trailer go back for the outboard, to recover I just pull on to the trailer and winch the trailer and boat back up the beach (12v winch in the back of my van) but I dont want to do my back in getting it on the trailer.

I can manage the Bombard with a 15hp 2 stroke and all the gear on my own. I weigh in at about 80kg. If you put everything over the transom wheels it makes it a lot easier to lift the bow.
