Best Trailer Brands for SIBS

Hi All,

I had a search through this forum but didn't find much that helped. I see that many of you are towing your SIB. What is your favorite brand, how much should I budget for a new trailer?

My SIB is just under 4m with a 20hp

Thanks for your help you knowledgeable lot.

Not sure I’ve a favourite brand but for a sib go for a bunked trailer. Anything unbraked rated between 350, 500 and 750 kg will suit. I’d also be looking at 10” over 8” wheels as will run cooler at motorway speeds and now prefer the sealed type hub bearings. New expect to pay around £1000.

For the money I’d veer towards the Indespension Coaster Micro/Mini range first off followed by something from Extreme perhaps.

I've got an extreme CAT trailer carrying a 4.2m SIB and it seems great so far.

Its new though, so I haven't used it in anger, but I've towed it for about 200 miles so far and no complaints. I'm having an engine support made to try and take some of the engine weight off the transom.

Hi ThundercatRob, thanks for the reply. The Extreme looks like it comes with a pad that the transom should sit on. Does yours not have this or is it not enough?

What are your views on this type of setup against the more traditional carpeted bunks? To me this looks like it will offer better support to the tubes. What do y'all think

It all comes with submersible lights so no taking the lightboard on and off

I have the EXT750 CAT from the link below. Its exactly the same as what's pictured. The transom is fully supported by the bunks, but the engine can still rock around a bit. Extreme are making me a small support which will hopefully bolt onto the rear bunk cross member. It will have a rubber block on the end which I hope the engine leg will contact with, and I can strap it tight.

I plan to regularly tow it between Cornwall and Surrey, so it will end up doing a lot of miles, and i just want to reduce all the towing stresses I can.

Ah, that makes a lot of sense. I think I might go for the Snipe in the link above as I think it will support the tubes better than a carpeted bunk trailer

Extreme and you will need about £875 for a bespoke sib trailer. They are very good

How difficult is it to slide the sib on and off a bunked trailer compared to rollers?

Dead easy on carpeted bunks, especially when wet.

Wouldn’t recommend rollers, unless they’re the super costly multi trumpet banks, as they just provide damaging point loads.

Bunks is the way to go.

I've been very impressed with the Extreme customer services. We discussed what I wanted, and they are creating something bespoke for a decent price.

Thank you Beamishken, I have received photos and it looks great, unfortunately, it is a 500 mile round trip and 10 hours driving there and back, so will have to pass.

But, if anyone is in the market for a trailer that looks really good value, go to the classifieds section.
