Bigger sib required?.

We have enjoyed running our little yam 330 and 15hp yam 2 stroke for 3 years now but the kids are getting bigger and want to do more than just go up and down the coast, ringos and kneeboards have been mentioned and I think its time to get something bigger to be able to do this.
Unfortunately I cant have a RIB as no space on the drive so It has to be something that when holiday season ends it can be taken apart and stored just missed out on a 4.5mtr wetline and a 40hp which would have been more than capable, could anyone offer more options please maybe something smaller would be ok and is there a certain boat make which has a slightly better design for the above activities ?.
Thank you.

If you are finding a 3.3m too small then my gut feeling is you are going to need to move up to 4m min for a worthwhile improvement. Regarding power I have only found a modest improvement going from 15hp to 20hp so I would be looking at min 25hp if you want a substantial upgrade in that area.

The only thing I would say is a 4m+ alloy floor SIB plus 25HP+ motor is a fair amount of faff and weight to deal with as a daily inflate.

Thanks for your response the boat will be set up on a trailer and close to where we use it all year, it will only come home and packed away at the end of the season.
Regarding engine size and boat length what sort of range should I be looking at it will be towing a ringo, ski bob with 2 up and a kneeboard my kids are aged 8 and 12, I have skied and owned boats for 20years but a I am more used to speed boats of 15-18 ft with 90- 150hp outboards.

See if you can find an ally floor zodiac futura or similar will take a 40-60hp iirc (2 stroke, 4 may be too heavy)
http://pacermarine.co.uk/product/zod...mk2-aluminium/
The zodiac will pack down to fit in a large estate but not sure what you do with the motor when you do that (have a mate with equally big car I guess)
https://www.blyacht.com/en/inflatabl...h-console.html
We had/have a 3.4m rib with 25hp 2 stroke which may have been ideal but still would suggest 40hp motor 3.6m+ minimum. It's was on the limit towing and wasn't comfy 4 up so curtailed its usability as a family boat.

Mk3 or 4 futura might be ideal

Ahhh loads easier if you are keeping it assembled for the whole season. I'd fancy the idea of a Futura too. Got close to the idea of one a couple of times in the past but not quite to the point of buying.

For years... something like 15 we have used a quicksilver 3.8 with a hard marine ply floor.. excellent little boat very stable... our kids learnt all about the basics of boat handling in her... we have a 15 hp 2 stroke merc... they could knee board and ringo... not mega quick but ok... a 25 2 stroke would be better ....
would recommend also packs down well... btw get a 2 stroke its way way lighter ,and punchier and at this end power to weight is massive

Problem with OB's 25HP and above (including 2 strokes), is they are not considered very portable (most OB mfg's consider portables to be 15HP and under). You get into 40-50HP motors and they most definitely require some sort of overhead hoist for installing/removing from a boat.

I have yam 380s with mariner 25hp, we pull the kids on ringo's etc, very capable and speed not an issue but as others have said the 25 2 stroke are a big heavy lump

Thanks for the response, the outfit would only be built up and taken apart once a year so the engine weight is not too much of an issue, would love a futura but always been out of my budget also are the hulls on them any worse/better in a slight chop? Would a 3.6-3.8 with a 30hp on do the job

Bigger sib required?.

We were 4 up today 2 adults 1 teen 1 toddler at 25 mph, no ringos today!
I have 4.2 futura, which I bought last year.. I can barely pick it up on my own, this one needs to stay on a trailer.

RIBase
Zodiac MKIIC (3.8m) with HD (aluminium floor) and Yamaha 25hp (2-stroke) is perfectly matched. Great outfit. Not sure about the newer style Futura with oversized tubes, think it's a long-shaft outboard too.
