Boat psi

I've got a 2.6m sunsport and a bravo footpump.

Simply question - is there a fool proof way to knowing when you've put enough air in?

I don't have an electric pump nor will I be getting one this year.

Can you just eyeball it? What's the risks?

Pump it up until you can push your thumb in 1/2 an inch on the tubes that’s about 2.5 to 3 psi or slap it until it has a steely ring and let some air out if it gets really hot
