Boatworld KAT Sport 330 - First Production model in the UK

Well Boatworld delivered early by a full week and FedEx picked up the Boat Yesterday and they delivered it at 8.45 am ish this morning.

Me and her indoors have had it out of its boxes and it is set up. I am generally very impressed with the Quality.

I have started a new thread to give this boat the correct name for people searching etc. Hopefully I will give it a test on the water very soon.

Here is my video of the unboxing and initial set up.

Looking great and good to hear pleased with initial quality. Nice set up vid. [emoji106]
Couple of heads up I’d recommend after our initial test runs…arrowed in pic;
1. Wheel brackets welded to transom tend to mark/wear rear of hp floor with use over time. Prudent to stick a couple of layers gaffer tape or similar on floor as a sacrificial wear patch.
2. Pop a safety cord/zip tie on drop nose pins to transom wheels…they will fall out…don’t ask!

You’ll probably also notice transom wheels on backwards in pic. We turned them round to allow more steerage clearance for motor when underway.

Also recommend wetting the transom inserts works a treat to aid assembly as is inserting when tubes are partially inflated. Tubes at 0.25 bar and floor at 0.7 bar worked well for us and a luggage strap under floor held the tank rock solid.

Many thans Chipko. I will take all that on board. I will also put the front carry rope that goes across the HP floor inside a length of hose pipe to make it better to hold.

I am looking foreword to the test run. Like you I have a 9.8 and 15 hp Two stroke and a 3.5 if I feel very sedate

Good to see close up of set up, and assembly. I echo Chipko’s advice about wetting the transom tube ends before fitting . I carry a small bottle of water with a bit of liquid soap added to do this-it makes it much easier. Only subtle difference to Takacat cats.
Hope you enjoy it!

Thanks. Yes a small bottle of water mixed with fairy liquid will be in the bag

I left the KAT blown up in the garden for a couple of days and it held air well. Here is a short video of deflating the boat and packing it up which took 30 mins but if I were not filming it could easily have been done in 15 - 20 mins

In truth that sounds a very fair assessment Dennis. A bit of interest for you but would be a disaster were it your new and only SIB at a budget only just afforded.

You will know what your Tohatsu 9.8 2-stroke does for you on your other SIBs but on our 3.8m Aerotec two-up with a similar load (to you and HID) we plane promptly with 15kts easily seen.

Yes indeed I also get about 14 -15 knots on our Honwave T38 Ie2 with the 2 of us the little dog and a bag for pic nic etc. it pops up on the plane very well. The KAT is a very different story it cavitates and struggles and is deffo not a day trip boat/sib in any shape or form. It is if I can fettle it a fun machine on a nice day getting wet. Absolutely don’t buy the KAT as a day boat as you would a sib.

My Takacat was similarly disappointing initially, regarding performance and lack of speed. It’s been reported here and elsewhere about the effects of the tunnel causing turbulence. One of my first trips at sea, two up was pretty dismal. Playing about with weight distribution, reduced the bow up attitude, and adding a permatrim vastly improved performance, solo and with two adults. Takacat lowered the upper transom bar, to assist with this. Apart from the transom height, I can’t see anything fundamentally different in the Boatworld set up.
Mine now runs pretty level, has minimal turbulence, and good performance on a 6hp.
I hope you get to the point where it works for you.

Good god Dennis, are you still alive man! 12 stone!!!! My balls would have been served up on toast for my breakfast if I'd even thought that, let alone put it out there on a video.

>>>My balls would have been served up on toast

I always blur the individual weights with a total inc dog and the anchor. Saves so much potential grief.

She used to be 8 stone I think but what would I know 🤪

Hopefully try the KAT today. Trying to figure a way to drop the outboard but can’t see how it could be done easily. Could buy a 9.8 long shaft as they are about at reasonable prices
