My first sib back in 1985 had a 30 hp. Once in very bouncy water it came loose enough to move a bit. Also after I figured I could stop the waterfall coming in the boat by raising the motor on a spacer the bolts became essential. If you build every trip use big wingnuts if you don’t have to raise your motor.
Also since then I’ve heard a few stories about this from others. Hitting a hard object can twist it off too.
