Camping not a million miles from Bristol

Hello chaps & chapesses,

My daughter is spending 5 days at a camp near Bristol leaving me and the boy to plan a boating adventure. Last year we stayed at Penmarlam near Fowey which was excellent, on-site mooring, great campsite, etc.

Now, I'm keen to find something not too far from Bristol... I don't fancy the tidal challenges around the Bristol channel so either south coast or just into Devon would be best. Ideally not more than 2.5 hours from Bristol. Maybe South Wales as well?

Any suggestions?

Many thanks

The whole of the North Coast is affected by the Channel, your best bet is straight down the M5 to Torquay or Plymouth.

Non tidal restricted (in the way the N coast is), plenty to see, good launch and harbour facilities and great camping.

If you want to wild camp in Lyme Bay (Spring Water from the Cliffs) I can share a Great location if you pm me...pretty sheltered in anything but South Westerly....and you can haul the Sib up onto Beach which is mixed pebbles and sand..
Lots of good Fishing ..... and Crustations/Prawns if you have a Pot

Thanks chaps. We'll either be in a camper van or with Landy & roof tent so will likely need to be a campsite rather than wild camping...

Will have a look along the South coast

Redcliffe farm at Wareham is popular with its own slipway as is Rockley Park on the opposite side of Poole Harbour

Worth a look

Try around Exmouth / Teignmouth - give options to explore rivers if weather's a bit tasty.

As Treerat says Torquay / Brixham are other options - Torbay's pretty sheltered unless it's blowing from the East.

It really depends how adventurous your SIBbing is going to be.

Redcliffe opening on May 1st for self-contained units only - they were not open for tents at all last year. Hopefully they'll open in June for all....

You might like to google poole osprey project. The ospreys have been re-introduced to poole harbour and if you are lucky and pootle around the western fringes of the harbour you might see one. Exploration can get quite adventurous on a small enough boat on a high enough tide. Plenty of places to explore that would be inaccessible to my bigger rib.
