Campsite with slipway between Poole and Lyme regis
Hi all,
I want to go camping somewhere between Poole and Lyme Regis, does anyone know of a good campsite with it's own slipway or a campsite with a good launch site closeby and easy parking!
I don't have launch wheels (yet) so need somewhere where i can get my car close in order to inflate it!

This is of great interest to me, I would like to know of any south coast campsites that have a slipway within in the site, even better if they also have a jetty. And even better still if they have static caravans.
Waiting to hear...
Thanx
Toby

Thanks Trevor, I have seen this one which looks good but was hoping to be able to get along the coast nice easy without going through Poole harbour as this is where I will go regularly.

Hi
Other than Redcliffe, there are no campsites with slipways on the Dorset coast. There are several campsites with slipways nearby, but as mentioned, Redcliffe is a good all-rounder. It is also convenient as you can sleep in the field next to your boat, park the car and trailer together right next to the slipway, and go out at most states of tide.
The chugg down to the 10kt zone takes about 10 minutes, then it is possible to plane all the way to Shell Bay. Its an interesting run too.
I will be staying there (with boat) on 28th/29th June if you would like to check it out and get a tour of the harbour and beyond.

There's a camping field at West Bay, only a stone's throw from the slipway. Only operates during July & August though. Dead basic, but cheap & conveniently located.

Thanks for that. I am actually staying in some Mongolian yurts with the outlaws this summer close to west bay, definitely taking the boat for some away time!
Will probably launch from west bay, any tips for places to check out near there.

I know of a couple of pubs in the village and a cheeky little seafood bar, but that's about it. Nothing you won't find yourself and it's a few years ago when I was there, so things will in all likelihood have changed.

West Bay
Hi Again
West Bay's launch facilities have improved since the new outer harbour slipway was opened. It now caters for much larger boats, and 2012 launching charges reflect this. Irrespective of size, a day launch now costs £18! without parking, so it does put off some small craft users. See attached photo showing the old slipway (bottom left) and new slipway (centre right).
If this is a bit pricey, the only other option I can think of is Charmouth. There is a campsite 200 yards away, you can park right next to the launch area (not slipway) and fees are very reasonable for inflatables.

It's only a gentle 10 minute jaunt over to Lyme from Charmouth, and like West Bay, there are now visitor's pontoons available. For info, launch fees at Lyme are also £18 now!

Cheers redrock.
Thanks for the info, excellent info/suggestions and seadown sound perfect for the family as well as me
Gonna get the wife to check it out so that she feels involved as I wouldn't want her to think that me and the boat were priority
