Cleaning SIB

Quick question. Is it okay to clean my Honwave with regular washing up liquid? Had mixed opinions so far. Some say it’s fine but I also heard that it contains bleach and should be avoided. Anyone know?

The obvious question is what does the manual say? However, I would have thought that a boat designed to cope with saltwater, seagull poo and bright sunlight, and capable of riding at a harbour mooring for weeks on end or hanging from davits on a cruise of the Med should be able to cope with something you would happily use to clean the spoon you will eat your breakfast with. It can't contain that much bleach, if any.

I use a low powered jetwash and fresh water on my Zodiac. That's enough to get rid of sand grains, seaweed and muddy footprints.

Don't know the exact science but I've been using Fairy liquid on my Sibs for the last 10 years with no adverse effect.

Bleach in washing up liquid? Not normally.

If there is, not enough to bother a Sib it doesn't bother you when you eat your dinner off plates etc

As it happens, I wash my SIB with just that. It's perfectly safe - just not a great cleaner. Ideal for regular use after mucky days, but not a "restorer". At the end of a very dirty stretch, give it a scrub with Traffic Film Remover or something like Fairy Power Spray (to remove the stains and grunge). Rinse well and dry before storage.
