Detachable rowlocks on a Aerotec

Rowlocks.
Been thinking about this for a while now,,,,, but never fancied cutting and removing part of the grab handle on top of the tube and gluing rowlocks on top of the tube.
So have come up with this solution.
Pair of rowlocks,,, bit of hard wood and stainless steel fitting. Total cost £33. Plus a bit of paint.

Was initially going to use wing nuts,,,, but with the female eye nuts gives anchor points as well.
Just got to get some Velcro to hold the end of the paddle up.

That looks like a good bit of lateral thinking! Have you had it in action to see how it rows yet?

Awesome job, one of the best thing about the Aerotec is the 'built in' accessory grab rail.

Not had a chance to try them out yet,,,, unscrewed every thing and painting up the hard wood before we hit the water.
That price for the bit and pieces does not include the paddles,,,, I already had them.

Your idea could be utilised as an accessory attachment point for GPS / radio

Think Al's mod is brilliant. I don't like the supplied telescopic alloy tube/plastic blade paddles... the blades are brittle when it's cold and will break if used for pushing off rocks etc and my telescoping mechanism collars have already come loose hence are secured with gaffer tape. So for a while I have thought about oars/rowlocks.

As something of a halfway solution last week I bought a pair of used very short oars that are no longer than some Canadian canoe paddles... just need to rub down and varnish and I'll try them next time out using as paddles.

i have the plastic two piece canadian style ones which i suspect are useless not even bothered to try them as you would struggle to keep a straight course but did think about buying one of the paddle board ones which would reach each side much longer

Yes that's what I thought about these oars... long enough to use both sides from the middle but not too long to be unwieldy.

Jeff - I may have misunderstood but no glue on mine - I just bolted through the seat mount as we don't use this.

Check the second link for construction.

I used a piece of painted ply, not as nice as the Beech (?) Al used.
