Dolphins - A Brief Encounter

A really hot, sunny, beautiful day for being out on the water near Fowey was made even more enjoyable by having an encounter with these wonderful creatures.

I hope you enjoy the video even though I only managed to capture a small proportion of what we saw.

It is best watched on a large screen

Sorry Brian, needed to delete from YouTube as the sound was crap. It will be back on in about 45 mins, so you'll have to open another tin.

The video doesn't do what we saw justice, there was so much going on all around I just couldn't capture it.

A trip to New Quay Wales for you and Mrs F needs to be booked David. Nothing is guaranteed, but everytime over the last 40 years when we've been there we have seen dolphins.

Hi Brian, sorry I forced you to have another tin of the black stuff but believe me, the sound on the first YouTube upload was really bad! My fault not the technology!
Lovely place and mostly really good weather. The obvious, highlight being the dolphins, they were amazing. I just wish I would have been better at capturing what we saw with our eyes and what we heard with our ears, on the video. I didn't do them justice.
Fowey and surrounding area is beautiful and the boating is great. I'm not sure that there is enough rough weather boating if things are a bit inclement as the river is short with not many places to go to especially at low tide, not like the Dart and around Falmouth. Saying that, if the sun was shining, I'd be back in a heartbeat.

Thanks PD.

We've seen dolphins before when we went to New Quay in Wales, but never in those numbers and never for that length of time. We must have been amongst them for close on an hour. There must have been a huge shoal of fish for them to have been feeding for so long.
Apparantley there are two big pods off the coast of Fowey, one East towards Looe and the other West towards Mevagissey.

To be fair, it was a great moment in a good holiday. When the other memories fade, that one will always be there.

I saw no less than THREE separate pods of dolphins recently on a visit to Eddystone rocks from Salcombe. I was very privileged.
On the final encounter one seemed to flash a bright blue underbelly. Any ideas why, or was it a trick of the light?

P.S. anyone else noticed it smells like a Morrison's fish counter around the lighthouse? Was really busy, quite a number rod fishing. Just the one diving boat.

Thanks Jeff

It was the number of birds that drew my attention, it was obvious something was going on.

Excellent trip and you were very lucky to see them. We have only seen Dolphins a couple of times from our own boat and that was very fleeting and a long way off.

You did very well.

A small tip. Assuming you are filming on your phone is it one that can have auto stabilisation switched on ?

That is with stabilisation on.

Edit: Just checked, and your correct, it was switched off!
