Domino double six

I recently scanned some old slides and came across these.
Considering I assembled it myself from a kit, this boat never ceased to amaze me, we used it for diving all year around. It could take four divers on a plane, six at slower pace, I think at a time we were 11 persons on board. We also did waterskiing all year, sometimes in a couple of metre waves. The gearbox of this Evinrude only lasted a couple of years before the gearbox broke, apparently it did not like the way the prop went in and out of the water all the time I had it modified with a racing kit with proper thrust bearings instead of the original shims, but in the end it was replaced by a 30hp Yamaha, never had any trouble with that The Domino was used until '92, I think, when I got the SR4, it is still in the basement, though, the hypalon (and the neoprene) on the stbd. tube where I used to sit is worn down to the cord...
Anybody else here built one of those Domino kits?

Never heard of the SIB kit, but you may not be surprised to hear I have rebuilt the gearbox on one of those Johnsorude 25s.......

The split case is a class 1 PITA to seal!

I was hoping, since it had the same block and some other parts as the '35HP, that it would be more robust, but I had a lot of problems with that engine

Hi,
here is a scan of the original manual, the floorboards came cut to size, so the drawings are not very good for measurements, but I'll post a few pictures of the surviving boards. They were made from 3/8" marine ply, but I replaced them with 1/2" later. The side stringers were made from aluminium U-profile, but I made an improved version with stainless steelplate.

Is the inflatable keel also missing? I can't remember what happened to mine, it may be bundled up with the rest of the boat in a dark corner of my basement, or it could have been cut up for patches. I think the same size Zodiac had a similar keel and the Bombard had one made from plywood.
The transom stays were made from 1" X 1/4" aluminum strip, but I replaced those with 1/2" 316 Stainless steel tubing.

Hello Colin
I have an original and complete Domino six that I am about to restore. If you need any dimensions of the floor etc let me know. Or if you fancy a visit to the Sheffield area you are more than welcome to come up to measure them.

I am just about to start the restoration of my Domino Six.
My father and I built it as a kit about 40 years ago.
It has been stored in attics for the past 30 years so I am about to give it a new lease of life.
The original Mercury engine is still with it and in mint condition and just been fully serviced. It now runs sweet as a nut!

The floor boards and transom are sound but need a quick re-vanish.

Apart from the keel (which leaks like mad) all the tubes are intact and leak free. Unfortunately the same can not be said for the valves.
Two out of the four valves are shot. The other two leak slowly.

I would like to keep the original valves to maintain the integrity of the restoration.

Question:
Has anyone out there got any ideas of how to obtain spare seals for the original valves?

Hi Colin

Thanks for the reply.
Yep re Polymarine, I will give them a call this week. In fact I may take it over to them to look at as i have now found a couple of leaks on one tube.

Yes the keel is an inflatable one and in need of repair.

This boat is a 10 foot version

Sorry but not on Whatsapp.
Send your mobile number I can send you a text message with photo?

I see you are in Manchester. We are Sheff 17 only 40mins away over the Snake. Why don't you pop over and measure them up? This would be best to ensure you have the correct sizes etc.

If this keel is beyond repair I will get a quote from Polymarine to make a new one, I can ask for a price for two if you like.

Cheers my number is 07592833024 I was going to have a go at making a wooden keel for it I have a feeling it would cost a lot for a new keel to be made by polymarine but if you could let me know how much they say that would be great
