Dunlop

I was sat off before, looking at the tide times and getting all screwed up coz I can't go out and play with the rest of the RIBs in Conway on Saturday when I thought about SIB's again.
Went outside for a coffin nail and for some reason looked on top of my shed. Hang on! I'd forgotten about the old Dunlop I had on top of my shed! Gets it down, it's filthy but blew up with out much fuss. Wooden floor looks abit rotten but considering, it's not in bad shape.
So does anyone know anything about these? It used to be a tender for a 28ft southerly when it lived in the river Seiont by Caernarfon Castle. This was years ago though and I only ever rowed it up the river.

1971 and the label is all metric??? What were they thinking!!!

If it's still holding air it's got to be worth a go - what's the transom like though?

That Wigan for ya mate!

Just been bouncing on the transom, seems rock solid. I've got a mariner 2.5hp start and go motor here. May try it off the beach soon.
Any idea what material it is?

Nip down down to the canal tonight and chuck it in to see if it floats I was going to suggest the Sands lake opposite Pontins but think it's a nature reserve now used to fish and swim in there.

It's just filling with water now, one to wash it down a bit and two to see if any water comes out of anywhere. Canals a good idea mate. You right, the sands pub lake is now a nature reserve. It's got a wooden walk way all around it where people can go and view the rats and a duck

It's not raining!
I did get it down a couple of months ago but for some reason I'd forgotten about it since.

SIBs are great, had a couple now. The last one I couldn't be bothered to deflate so tied it straight to the car roof, rope going in one window and out the other.
Got some funny looks having a 14ft Avon on my BMW saloon! Was a bit light at the bow over 40mph too!

You lucky it didn't fly off like a whores knickers on a windy day

Wife's just come in and her jaw hit her chest, bounced off and then hit the deck. The on going argument about the RIB living in the front garden has now turned int an argument over the SIB being full of water in the back garden and how they are both going to have to live somewhere else. Could be a Dunlop for sale very soon...

It should be hypalon.

We had a 'C-Craft' SIB when I were a nipper. C-Craft were competitors to Avon (with similar models and quality). Dunlop I think were either competitors as well, or possibly C-Craft turned into Dunlop.

Cheers

Chris

Tried that as she walked through the door so told her I was about to make ultra thick condoms seeing how we already have 7 kids. Just made things worse!

Already had that discussion Apparently driving a VW transporter around is bad enough

That time it wouldn't rev? Something to do with the engine management system. It's a bloody good van! It's the LWB so you've got the two front seats and 2 rows of three seats and then a massive boot. But when she meets her mates at ASDA street cred comes into play

C-Craft were Dunlop
they were known as Dunlop C-Craft sports Boat/tenders.

For their length they were normally a bit bigger on the tube sizes than Avon.
And normaly faster as they were allowed bigger engines than the Avon of same length.

Loads of friends had c-craft boats in the early 70's.
All around 10ft with 20hp engines on the back ,and flying along the thames back waters
where the conservancy boats couldnt catch them.
In those days once you were on land they could touch you, and no police boats on upper
thames to catch you for speeding.ha ha ha

Even 6hp made them quick though.
Good strong boats, but for some strange reason Avon outsold them.
I think Avon had more accessories and a bigger outlet for their products.

Do not confuse C-Craft with the rubbish campari boats, i had one of those and they were real crap.
With a 6hp on 10 foot campari, you could open the throttle and fold the boat up ha ha
