>>>that first picture really shows the "V" hull.
Yes it does and also shows a perhaps unintended benefit in that due to the V the interior floor is deep hence the seat is well down the tubes giving the passenger (ballast!) a lower C of G and great feeling of being in the boat not on it. Compare with the Elling images where the seats are almost level with the tube tops. It's perhaps just a case of getting used to it and there will be little practical/stability difference.
But it's one of the main reasons I have reserved a bow dodger for the Elling to add to Mrs F's feeling of security a bit.
Edit: Real demo of this interior depth of the Aerotec is image I've added of our 20yr old daughter having a nap as we returned from The Sound of Jura a few years back. She is 20yrs and 5'4" at that time and you can see how she is comfortably contained within the bow.

Back to more Elling focussed stuff... when I was looking for a generic image to show the seat height on the post above I pinched it from a Polish Elling dealer who I see has them currently in stock at £987. The site has the best KB350 image selection I've seen. Including this one below that is the first one I've seen to give some indication of how the tubes and keel sit relative to each other and might give a clue to what's in the water on the plane.

One up probably... mind you with crew added who knows... it may have a Thames barge type contact patch.

Are you going to be keeping the Aerotec as well as the Elling Fenlander?
I like the flexibility of my 2 airfloor sibs.
My 4.3m Excel Volaire is permanently trailered set up ready to go with main and auxiliary engine permanently mounted / bolted to the transom.
My Honwave T38 in its bag deflated so it can be taken away in my van conversion motor home, p or in the car when away with my caravan.
Now got the choice of Tohatsu 6hp or Tohatsu 9.8hp 4 stroke engines to push the T38.
6hp for when its just me and the dogs and the 9.8hp when my son comes along.

As explained at the start there is only one reason to make this change and it's to reduce the weight of mainly the outboard, its fuel load... and the SIB itself if possible. The reason to change to the Elling is to even up the performance on the reduced OB size from 15hp-10hp and reports indicate the efficient Elling hull may allow this hence ordering one.
But the Elling will have exactly the same use as the Aerotec so for me keeping both would just be duplication so the Aerotec would sit unused.
We all have different uses and expectations from our SIB so it may be others already with an Elling may find them fine but we might discover an aspect that doesn't suit us. We know the flipside is true in that the Aerotec 100% suits every aspect of our use but there are others who find different SIBs better for what they want.
I'm really hopeful this won't be the case but if the Elling has performance/handling/comfort issues that are significant negatives for us I will sell it on and keep the Aerotec with its reduced 10hp performance.... or perhaps pack the Elling away in a spare bedroom preserved for any future time where it was just me going out on my own with a lightweight 6hp 4-stroke when the ability to carve a furrow in a chop two-up was less important.

I thought that was the case but couldn't remember.
Hopefully the Elling will do the job for you.
As always there will be Pros and Cons to each set up.

Incidentally I roughly noted top speeds of my T38 with around 30 stone on board.
Tohatsu 6hp 4 stroke 13mph
Tohatsu 9.8hp 4 stroke 18mph
Tohatsu 20hp 4 stroke 24mph
I'm a happy guy sitting on the plane at 10 - 13mph soaking I the surroundings with my dogs by my side.

Our figures for the Aerotec with a similar weight were near identical for the 9.8 and 20 motors but an 8 we used needed to drop back to 20 stones before it would give the figure you have for a 6. I'm guessing it's the extreme V of the Aerotec that needs more power initially to push it up on the plane.

What did impresd me with the new Tohatsu 9.8hp running along at 12mph on the plane was how quiet it is in comparison to the single cylinder 6hp at the same speed.
Was very therapeutic

I suffer tinnitus and took part 18mths ago in an experimental trial to lessen its effects (total success) but during that time learned that sounds which we notice or bother us are not always related to how a meter would measure them... and so I think it is with outboards.
I found the whisper quiet idle/trolling speed of my Suzuki 20efi amazing but at speed it was little different overall to a Mercury or Yamaha 15 2-stroke... just a different sound character.... and at many speeds it vibrated more.
The 9.8 Mariner 4-stroke was fairly quiet at most speeds but near WOT not much less than the 2-strokes.
Just running and revving the Tohatsu 9.8 2-stroke in the bucket I'm reminded that's a good bit quieter than the 15hp 2-strokes.... perhaps almost on a par with the 4-stroke model of the same size but like I said with the Suzuki 20 just a different character of sound.

Just looked at the boatworld site. Says the KB 350 will be released on April 19th. Can’t wait.

That's quite a fixed date given the journey yet to be undertaken.... hope it's true.

At least it’s over land rather than sea.

In continuation of a collection of misc stuff that relates to the eventual Elling KB350/Tohatsu 9.8 2-stroke slimmed down outfit...
Back in posts #81&90 I mentioned fitting the only small tach I like to the Tohatsu. It's one with a sealed in battery so you just get a whole new unit after about a 5yr life.
Well I fitted this tach but didn't happen to run the motor after that but went to it today and the tach screen was blank... the battery had not lasted a month. Funnily enough when it arrived the packet looked like it had done a few rounds with the yard alsatian... reckon it was really old stock.
By chance though the reason for getting the motor out today was to fit a second tach to the tiller arm... thinking a second £7 cheapy was less hassle than keep moving the permanent one from under the cowl when engine/prop testing etc. At least the new one works OK and it does have the advantage of a replaceable battery... but without the earth wire as I've found before seems less accurate. It'll do for now though.

I think you must be close to running out of things with which to tinker/fettle while awaiting the Elling. Time to get the 380 dusted off and go for a paddle while the good weather is with us, after all it could be snowing by next weekend!
