Evinrude Johnson 9.9 HP 2 stroke

I was lucky enough to pick up this beauty this morning.

The owner was retired , lived on the river his whole life , sold his property and bought a farm.

He had sold all his boats but was hanging on to his favorite last item, till he decided to finally let her go .

Timing is everything, and sometimes you get lucky.

I have a pre-historic version of that and it's a great motor. Just wish I could find a 15hp carb for it! 8

Me too .

This is my older 1976 15HP

I'll keep an eye out for your carb.

I think mine contains parts from pretty much every year of production!
Great motor, starts first pull every time and pulls well.
Smokes a bit at start up but I'm sure that's just petrol evaporation leaving an oily mix in the carb.
I do generally pull the fuel line to stop it at the end of the day but I think it still leaves some behind.

Yup. They always will as a vacuum forms because the fuel in is sealed once the line is removed and the vacuum eventually becomes strong enough to starve the engine and stall it while there is still fuel in the system.

Plugging in a bare connector will leave the feed open and stop the vacuum if one can be bothered. I tend to just do this at the end of the season when doing the last flush.

Pull the choke and start it again to burn off more of the leftovers
